[House build thread] Andy’s house ( not from scratch )

Bit of airflow is not a bad thing in a bathroom Andy. Most modern extractor fans run on a silent trickle setting if not running then on boost when on, keeps the humidity right.

Agree with you there mate.

Snag is these are howling! Other snag is that they are the older style ones so just run on demand then for set time X. Ill change them out eventually to the humidity ones that you described

I have one in the utility one one side of the entrance, and there is another in a bathroom on the opposite site. Its a windtunnel!

I can cope with the ones upstairs venting but this one is just plain cold!

Progress is likely to be stifled somewhat over the next few weeks. I did myself an injury and have torn bits if my knee that yoir not supposed to.

Waiting for swelling to go down the off to get more scans.

I have zoomed in twice to validate that my testicles are not in shot.

Please stop trying to see my testicles now I have mentioned it

I fitted some fancy insulated doors to my garage… didn’t seem to make a 💩 of difference! Still Baltic in the winter. The secret is more clothes and a THICK TurboRenault Beanie!!

Been a while since I have updated this thread but progress has been ongoing despite a major injury setback.

Vertical blinds begone!

You would not believe how much more heat is kept in by these curtains!

Next we had a problem with a shower in our en-suite. It wasnt getting warm and the pressure was dire. I had to find the water isolation points then took apart the shower and cleaned up the thermostatic valve

We now have hot water with decent pressure. I have to take apart another one in another bathroom soon as thats slow as well. However its a spare room so its not on the priority list.

Next up prior to carpets being refitted in most of the upstairs I sanded down and stained a couple of steps.

In the pictures these look amazing. However the hardner in the stain never really set. I had to rub them back down with thinners and redo. Frustrating but thats life

Now onto the weatherstrip. The entry part of the house was always baltic. I could see daylight. I ragged the old seal out ( you wont hear that phrase on DIY SOS ) and put the new one in.

The exterior wood panelling and doors have also been shown some love

Carpets have now been done as well.

I think thats about it ..

I have just about dried out from cleaning what felt like miles of stone this weekend at the house

During

It appears to be the case now of the showers are in use and we are in a really hard water area.

I have stripped apart two showers now with thermostatic valves and noted the hot water area has a massive calcium build up and cleared them out.

This one I used limescale remover to clean the valve with a great result

This bathroom I had to strip the shower off the wall and clean the filters.

Both now are working as expected.
