[House build thread] Andy’s house ( not from scratch )

You’ve also got a massive water tank to heat as well, the megaflo are pretty efficient though but will still take a chunk of change 😬

It will reduce once you get a program running that suits your needs, it’s just getting there and finding the balance.

I am curious if the mega flow is a hot water tank, or a buffer for the UFH? Any ideas? It’s typical fir a sealed unit to be used as a UFH buffer in a wet system to stop the boiler firing , stopping and firing again from whet I read?

In related news noticed last night it get colder around 2130. Checked it the RCD around 2330 as was comfy on the sofa. The RCD for the central heating circuit was in the off position.

Flipped it bsck to ON and voila. Power restored.

Except it wasn’t.

Cue me going to bed as was tired and fix it in the AM.

Seems a 3A fuse blew just above the program unit. Unsure why but changed it out and all good now.

I’m no expert but it would be your hot water tank, the ufh would use a heat exchanger inside it to act as you have said. When the ufh calls for heat it will open the valve and signal the pump.

In true internet fashion I could be wrong and someone will be along to tell me otherwise shortly.

I just left the hot water set to constant, although maybe not the most cost effective way to do it, it was just the easiest rather than faffing with schedules etc in a busy, routine less household. It may or may not have helped with heating cost as my understanding could be wrong of how the system worked.

I don’t know anymore ! You have added more confusion to my knowledge.

I don’t seem to have any issues with the manifold heat as noted with the thermometer on the manifold abc I have the water heating 3 hours a day.

I have someone coming to service the boiler Wednesday. I might have to hit him with 1000 questions.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Like I say, I’m not sure enough either to give a definitive answer.

Sounds like a plan, hopefully he/she/they can answer the questions, maybe write them down so you don’t forget!

Last night I couldn’t sleep and noted that two of the UFH zones were still firing despite the thermostat being upto and in one case well over temp.

The stat was not asking for heat, but the controller was “stuck” asking for it. Strange.

I manually override the stat to the “off” position and it cut the demand from the controller. Put it back on “auto” and voila. No heat request.

Repeated on the other unit and all good at the mo. Killer but now though is once the temp in the room drops will it trigger again?

Suspect I have two duff stats tbh. Others work fine.

Ok, so found out why I had two extra thermostats behind pictures!

Shame on me for not checking

In other news more silicon sealing and painting has commenced

Spoke to the chap who did the gas service. You were correct. It’s a hot water tank. It also doubles as the hot water for the UFH! No combo , just a simple heating device

At least you know how it all works now and can find a setting/program that is energy and cost effective for your needs.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve been driving my wife’s car for over 4 years and always though the intermittent wipers were rubbish, literally one speed and the control knob did nothing and wiped at the wrong time, turns out I needed to push the button on the end of the stalk rather than knock it up a position, I told her of my stupidity and she didn’t know either 🤣
