5 GT Turbo GTT getting ready for the track.

90 degree dizzy fitted. Also removed idle jet and clean as I have been getting the hesitation when I stab the throttle it leans off and try's to die. So I cleaned it out which improved it 90 percent. I have inspected the rubber o ring and it's seen better days and is looking tired so I replaced it so I will see how it fairs. image.webp
Ignor the coolant pipe being squashed it's pushed back into the correct position.

Ok these issues im having ... Well long story short I borrowed a working carb from lee Mac and went for a drive fault still there so I have ordered a malapasi FPR inc new fuel line and vac line. I've also ordered a carb rebuild kit. So the cars off the road for a week or so although it's driveable I thought lets get stuck in and get this sorted. Also looking for a second car less than 1k if anyone knows of anything local (yorkshire) I fitted my elbow/reduced to turbo and tidyed up yet more wiring. image.webpimage.webp

image.webp image.webp I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and relocated it to a more accessible location. Then randomly the fuel pump relay failed so I have another in order I hope this fixes the hesitation issue, I also rebuilt the carb with new seals.

Ok brand new fuel pump in and working I also managed to fix one of the old ones with a dry joint. I've been out for a test drive and its its just as bad as it ever was. Next on the agenda is manifold gasket and new spark plugs. If that does not fix it them I am completely stumped. A wierd thing with this fault is when on overrun I get no pops or bangs where as before they were plenty full.

The bowl emptying is sorted mate this is a hesitation on acceleration im getting. Like it try's to sta then recovers. I have a video but it's a pig to upload to this.

Upload to youtube and then post the link mate.

Hesitation but the same on different carbs, tough one, I'd be checking all my vac pipe is plumbed right and none of it is split I think.

This is a tough one mate. Is there any fuel going down the carb throat on idle from where it shouldnt be? I had this issue many years ago and the carb was throwing in fuel, it would hesitate as way too rich then once over it everything was fine. This was back in the days of no afr gauges had a fair bit of head scratching to fix lol

Above is the link of my operating the throttle under bonnet this is reving to around 3k everytime the revs die the afr shows lean. If I drive it so the fault occurs if I keep my foot on throttle to get up the Rev range then for instance change gear and apply throttle again it does not fault but if I take more than a few seconds to get back on the throttle the fault comes back.

To keep me occupied while I sort the running issues out I have been preparing the rear brakes to be fitted just a quick coat of paint on the pad carrier. I will look to get these fitted in next few weeks along with near rear brake compensator and lines.

Trying to work through in my tiny little brain.

Gentle application and eventual WOT = no hesitation

Straight WOT = hesitation then fine but with lean

Has the carb been changed to a known good one? Any rebuilds? All jets clean? Is the main jet jetting correctly and not spurting everywhere?

Going to go on a past experience here - fuel pressure regulator. It's knackered. Unless you have a new one. Then I'll back away from that.

Reason for me saying this is I had an issue similar on that car. Gentle throttle was fine. WOT though caused havoc. Popping and banging. Checked everything then took the carb off and the reference pipe from carb to fpr was cracked under the radius of the curve. Swapped it out and the issue went away.

Might be worth checking?

I have tried another working carb still the same fault I also rebuilt my carb with rebuild kit. I replaced the vac line to FPR and replaced fuel pressure reg with a new one and all the fuel lines to and from it.
Gentle on throttle to wot is fine

Stright to wot fault occurres and it most causes half throttle this is especially annoying when pulling out of junctions.

What is your spark plug gap set to? Try reducing it as close as you dare. I run my 21 right down at 0.55mm, although thats too close for a five lump i'd try .7 or something like that, in case it's blowing the spark out.
I'd also try swapping out the AEI and crank sensor just to rule them out.
