5 GT Turbo The second coming…. The F4Rt saga

Will have the car back from Mark this weekend. Once it’s back I plan to give the carpet a good going over again before fitting.

I’ve booked the car in with Ash Simmonds for 13th June to have a custom inlet made to match his or at least be very similar. I can then run a PMS breather set up.

I’ve ordered a set of Gaz with adjustable top mounts and helper springs but a 6 week wait for that lot.

I need to remove the exhaust when it’s back and get a new flexi welded in. Plan to remove exhaust manifold and re wrap.

Once back from Ash I need to decide if I move straight to the new ECU with fresh loom or whether I get it tuned as it is. Will see how much of the warm months are left before making that decision.

Also considering getting it painted but that’s a slippery slope.

I found some time to get stuck in to the 5 this afternoon.

I started with treating the underside where the cage has been fitted, a bit of extra precaution more than anything, the shell isn’t exactly show car ready 😂

I’ve bolted the cage in fully for now, I still need to give the carpet another wash and fit it around the cage.

I’ve bought some Sparco black harnesses to match the seats, have some eyelets on order, will fit them when these arrive.

The gauges need refitting - when I move to the newer ECU I’m contemplating moving to a modern digi dash so I can do away with the majority of additional cages.

The GAZ coilovers and adjustable mounts are on order - likely a good 4 weeks out, the current suspension looks like it’s seen better days.

I removed the turbo, manifold and downpipe today. I did this as they all need wrapping again and this time with the DEI stuff I used on the RX7, very impressed with it.

I also needed to pull downpipe as there is a hole in the flexi join, I’ve bought a new one to be welded in to fix.

The turbo kit is still in great condition, no wonder as it’s covered very little miles.

The more I inspect the car the more I see things that need improving.

It’s off to Ash Simmonds in a few weeks for a front mount inlet, I think the radiator set up will need to change for it to fit.

My mission is to get it road legal and tuned before the end of the summer.

I may, depending on funds, get it painted over the summer, will see how the wallet is after our house renovation is complete.

After it’s back from Ash I’ll likely send to my friend Mark to have a new engine loom made for ECU, the current one is less than ideal as it’s adapted from C1J.

Folks, need a bit of advice.

Have some Gaz on order as you know along with helper springs and compbrake top mounts.

Here’s how I set them up using OE top mounts and bushing.

My question is - do you think I just solid mount without the donut bush this time ?

Also is anyone aware if the turret tower itself needs amending to fit compbrake adjustable mounts ?

Some time bk now so sure others will quantity but when I fitted adjustable top mounts with bearing etc to my koni yellow converted to coilover dropped the donut mount etc

Thanks Duncan, my concern is it may be a bit too harsh for road use with no bushing. I don’t mind a bumpy ride, used to it on the FD but don’t want it to be super harsh.
