The Campus Turbo 'in stock' build

Looks really good, always liked that colour, boggo 5's look well dropped.
I can't really engine swap Camprust until Lad is older because of insurance, and even then it'll be time off road and possibly a fair amount of on/off time until it was done properly, but the TCE 1.2 into a base 5 really appeals to me......secretly hoping he gets bored with it and has a more modern Clio in a year or so so I can buy a cheap TCE clio and start swapping .......

the tce swap would be my next choice for a campus turbo engine too 👍🏻
Has anyone done it?
What are the real practicalities of it?
Physically it's fit, but what box/shaft combi?
I.E. use TCE box...mate to a GT box/shafts....TCE loom and ECU?
Speedo sensor? How would it mate to GT clocks, or even would it
Would a TCE ECU work de immobilised without a UCH? .....it's all stuff I'm not into
Basically I fancy a GTT/replica but with your 150 horse TCE lump, still be light, fairly quick with EFI without the standalone expense/ or faff / big power F4rt.....they're quite a heavy lump all told in a 5?

not that I'm aware of, never been done. I think everything will need to be figured out as you go. Immobiliser bypass can be done on most ecus these days and I'd be expecting to use a standalone dash or maybe a gtt item with the speedo pickup on the wheel.

I think i'd consider hauling the entire TCE setup into the 5. You could just strip away what you don't need. The only issue then would be making the instrument panel fit the binnacle. If you bring the whole setup and all it needs is power it wont care what chassis its in.

All depends on what I put it in......., It's track width, shaft lengths ETC.....Smashed Clio TCE would be pennies, but if it ended up custom shafts etc etc it's not worth the hassle/expense
For arguments sake, my aim is basically a 5 GT box and shafts with the TCE lump on with a stripped out TCE loom and doctered ECU?

Pie in the sky ATM, just opinions I'm fishing for.

I did look at that briefly when it was mentioned on your thread @Turbell

I thought the same thing smashed tce be quite cheap, and swap the clio gear across into the shell. as far as I’m aware, it’s not been done. it hadn’t when I looked before anyway.

First thing this morning I phoned a company Brentacre who specialise in modified cars and my pal had said he got on well with, long and the short of it i got a quote on a classic policy with an agreed value of 4K, 3k miles a year, everything declared for £195 a year. I was well impressed with that. The only thing I might change is the mileage, I can’t see me using it more than that to be honest but 5k might be better.

Delivery came today, Initially when I ordered the AN fittings I slightly misunderstood what I needed so I’ve ended up waiting another day and spending an extra tenner. But I have to say, that was the first time I’ve used that stuff and it is ace.
In the future I’ll use it wherever applicable, super easy and brilliant quality for the cost.

proper tidy kit and if I’d got the order right first time that pipe cost about £35 inc delivery and the adapters from feed and to turbo.

looks heaps better

so with that sorted I was keen to give it a hurl out.
So I thought fuck it, it’s friday.
out the gates and down the drive for the first time, ran down the street and back up to the house.
Past the house and out...

There’s a lay-by about 5 miles from my house out the town that I’ve used in the past as a return point for testing.

stopped for a photo and a quick whip round, the car cut out on me coming into the lay-by, I somewhat expected that. Bit of smoke from the bay, the turbo oil return is weeping a bit, to be honest I’m not keen on the rubber pipes I’ve used and will replace as soon as poss. They were just odds and sods.
But aside from that no worries.
The car did struggle to start when hot, the down pipe is maybe 10mm from the starter. The down pipe is on the list to alter slightly after the mot.

so back to the house being mindful of that return line and extra vigilant 👀

note that videoing outside the vehicle means you can hear the wind speed only and not the noise of the car 😂

didn’t break down then after a rough 10mile jont.
happy days.

the car wasn’t running perticularly cool as per the video, I discovered a bit of an air lock in a coolant pipe when I got back to the house so I suspect it was just a duff reading.

next steps are change turbo return, flush coolant and refill/bleed before next road test. And I’m going to have to mess about with my idle jet to get it running a bit better. I did clean it out and I’ve ordered an o ring for it. But may try opening it slightly.
And it needs an mot still but I’m confident in that with no breakdown today 😁

Cheers 👍🏼

Get some support on the middle of that pipe mate, or it'll shake and vibrate and eventually stress fracture a fitting if you're unlucky.

Well done though! You must be well chuffed :)

I’ve just re read this properly and yes that was my hope as well that the bell housing pattern was the same and really an engine mount would be the biggest issue. Stripped back as far as poss with regard to AC PAS etc and ecu to suit

What are the chances of plopping the whole lot inc shafts in and the track width being close enough to just pop the shafts in to the OE hubs?

Works on the Meg engine into the 197.

ive been having a look today to try and fathem it out. drivetrain being the thing. and i think it can be done on that side easy enough, but not in the form of one donor car.
OS engine mount is next to look at

bar an engine mount i think its off the shelf tbh. just a couple of different shelves haha

and ive read claims of 170bhp, and shitting internals PAST 200bhp.
but for north of 150bhp for pretty much your run down of mods @Adey , on EFI out the box. i think its an interesting idea.

also the twingo gt box is a later design with a different driveshaft design
I think the issues will be plentiful trying to get the whole shabang in, cos of differing eras of the two cars, I don’t know enough about Clio 3 or Twango, or have access to one for a looksee....if breakers were open I’d nose purely for interest, but my gut instinct would if bellhousing bolt spacing matched just to use engine etc on 5 box and shafts/hubs etc .....but then I know nowt as to what ECU needs to see beyond engine sensors?
Top and bottom of it an engineless GT appeared close by, not mad money so I had a tentative probe, but it was withdrawn from eBay so assume someone snatched it direct, I just thought a rolling rough GT was a better start for TCE swap....‘‘twas not to be.
I keep looking, think I’m about ten years behind on values tho’......

I’ve found a box/combo that I think would work, I don’t know about speedo drive is the only thing.

I have had a look for cheap donors, and a cheap car to plonk it into, as I’ve been sat inside all day. Can’t help myself 🤷🏼‍♂️😂
