21 Turbo 1988 Black E-reg 21 Turbo

It's the tail I've highlighted in the pic. Don't leave them as straight wires, you will cut yourself up at a later date. Fold them over in a V against the exhaust

Soooooooooooooooooooooo obviously as the car was nearing completion a kick in the teeth was due. It started running like crap and even dropping cylinders. I did some diagnosis and the compression test on 1&2 was waaay low

Something not right here at all and the only way to diagnose a problem like that is...

Checked a few bits and bobs and then found this, which is pretty damning. So much for the prebuilt tall engine eh.

Surly not on a fresh built engine , great work and loving the sound of the 9 bought back some happy memories

Picture 1-4….compression results
Picture 5…..the head is off! 💪🏻

I would have farted around for weeks before making that sort of commitment! 🤣
No point in f'king about, I had under 2 hours until I was due to head out with the Mrs, it was challenge accepted! JUST got it done in time with 12 minutes left to shower and change lol

I took the head to my machine shop and the sorted the valves out. Car is rebuilt now, run up, head bolts retorqued - seems much happier now!

Spotted a few things inside I didnt like very much, there was some damage on the cam journals and the wrong dowel (left) used in the block>head (right is correct). I dont know who built this engine but I think maybe they need to take a bit more care when doing it.

Took it for a short test drive - however the rear brakes had been put together wrongly and they were binding quite badly. The handbrake cable was overtensioned, the locknut was loose and the slider retaining pins were missing on the drivers side. Not good!

Pulled the dust covers off, pushed out and cleaned up the pistons and greased, wound the pistons in and reset the handbrake. Made some new pins for the sliders, dont want them falling out!

Next test drive around the block was better, small water leak which is now fixed. Brake pedal is soft as shite though so that needs looking at next.
