What? Another one? Yes, another one, seeing as one of mine is away for bodywork I thought I would squeeze this in.

This is a friends car. Really nice on the body, suspension, brakes all work, not bad at all. But the engine, sadly, rattles like someone took a bag of spanners on a buckin bronco.

Ready for surgery

Started on it at half 2 Saturday afternoon, with a plan of getting the engine out, then tackling the gearbox and subframe at a later date, however, unusually, things went spiffingly well and I got the whole lot out by half six :)

Was fortunate with the subframe bolts to be fair, three came out OK and I only had to chop one off, and even then it wasnt seized in the collar and just dropped out. Relief! I've spent multiple sessions battling subframe bolts before now!

Both in bits now!

Wow, looking forward to seeing the progress with this black beauty and learning some more about this engine etc along the way-two 21 Turbos in good hands 🙌 👍

The owner has supplied a fresh built tall engine for me to sling in, complete with running in requirement and valve clearences from the engine builder. I dont agee with some of the figures or directions, if i'm honest, but I promised I would stick to the builders requirements.

...probably :)

Fair enough, I was curious to know what the cause of the engine rattle may have been but I understand the convenience and reduced repair time in purchasing a tall engine 👍
Silly question, what is the reason for removing the gearbox?

It needs the subframe bushes doing, its come with a powder coated new subframe. To drop the subframe you may as well drop the box too, its more hassle to retain it in the car than it is to drop it out.

I might actually build the engine and box up on the subframe out of the car, and then bolt it all in.

Ah, that explains it, should look really good back together with powder coated subframe and fresh engine.
Look forward to some updates on this as you progress with the work.
Great to see another well loved 21 Turbo!
