My Renault 5 1.7 GTX Thread

Hi. I'm in New Zealand and ha one of the last two GTX's on the road here. Sold it about 2 years a go with my R5 Campus to a collector with a barn. I had not undercover dry stoage and watching the rust at the bottom of the A pillars was distressing. Still regret the sale but I still have my Alpine GTA. I had 230k km and was getting a bit smokey but it could really move. Faster off the line than an Alfa 33 1.7 16v. I had a carb conversion with a manifold plane (yes they warp) to a Weber off a Lancia Beta HPE 2.0. All the best with your car. Looks great. Will try to attach some photos

Not sure. Of the super5’s There was another gtx in black that I knew of. Also 2 gtt’s which I am sure are packed away somewhere safe. There were a few campus’s and gtl’s but most of those will be in the crusher now. There is a first series 5 Gordini here but the others which were sold new are probably all gone.

Liking the thread love these cars I own a r5 1.7 Monaco so interesting reading and pics!!! Just wanted to pick your brains regarding an exhaust. I managed to find rear box but need the rest of the system but haven’t had any luck on finding them - most places I’ve looked show them as listed in stock so I buy them to then get a reply saying it’s out!! I don’t really want to get an exhaust made for £500 if I can avoid it!
If you’ve any ideas I’d appreciate it

Big day today, my GTX passed its MOT! No advisories, new steering gator, alternator belt and cam belt for good measure, hopefully wont ever need another cam belt!

Next is to do an oil change and refit the interior and skirts.

Out of interest, what is the best oil to be using on a 1.7? 10W40 ?

Time for some fresh oil in the GTX .... i estimate it hasnt been changes since 2014/2015 when it was last MOTd (until now)...that is a rusty oil filter!

@DaveL485 another clip for you to identify These ones hold the plasic trim in place along the sides, and are an absolute pain to get out.

What colour do you have? I picked one up a few months ago and slowly doing up! I’ve fitted an after market straight through 2.25 to mine with custom section off the manifold.
