Thats the EML. Usually means a sensor is out, on the 21 the most common cause is a faulty or badly adjusted TPS.Does anyone have a PDF of an owners manual available anywhere? I was wondering what the light on the dash is that is like a heart beat??
Its not on, i just wondered what it was. there is a bulb in it, but i dont think my 5 has any engine management or fancy things like that!Thats the EML. Usually means a sensor is out, on the 21 the most common cause is a faulty or badly adjusted TPS.
A lot of the dashes are templates, and have redundant sockets.... for example you will see a coil plug heat light on a petrol R19, it's not used but it is used on a diesel. Its not on, i just wondered what it was. there is a bulb in it, but i dont think my 5 has any engine management or fancy things like that!
Whats your end goal? Money no object OEM or get it done?and keeping as much original plastic as possible and just replacing the rubber ends, instead of the whole lot. Thoughts?

So, that was a useful learning and debugging session. Watched some videos and looked at wiring diagrams to understand how wiper motors work with regard to the park position. Eventually traced the fault to 2 broken wires in the harness from the boot to the lid. Shouldnt be too difficult to repair. For what its worth, the 3 wires going to the motor are +12v (on always when the wipers should be on), Ground and +12v pulse from the relay, which pulses half a second. In its park position, the 12v doesnt get to the motor to turn it because the motor is in its park position. When the half second pulse comes from the relay, it drives the motor just far enough for the switch to move to the off-park position, where the 12v takes over to complete the motion until it gets back to parked when the contact switches off the power. It then waits again for the pulse from the relay. It's French. thats a design feature View attachment 148069View attachment 148069

Yeah not hard ... hardest part was soldering the thick wires, practically impossible to get the solder to flow through the whole lot!Rear harness is common for breaking at the tailgate joint, resulting in popped fuse when rear demist or wiper is operated, nice easy fix![]()
