(Fook1n) finally I got my a mate who lives on the Wirral to get my Gearbox off Bloke aka Carl Wadeson...

Looks ok after it’s 12 month rebuild 🤦🏼‍♂️ let’s just hope the insides have been rebuilt, as well as the outside has had a blast and re-paint.. 🤞

Whilst there, I also got back the Throttle body, some spark plugs, and the clutch lever:9C791BAB-6BEA-4643-A487-B54B0E261852.jpeg
I hope to get up to Liverpool in the next week or so to get everything picked up, then the lot can (hopefully) be dropped back into the Engine Bay!

in preparation for the re-assembly, I’ve also had the OE Air-com pump Re-built to ensure the A/C System is in Tip Top condition when it’s all back together:

if I can get this car back together for the TurboRenault/ClioSport national Day this year..!?

Thanks for reading 🙂

Been working thru the engine loom recently and took a few tips and tricks from my R11 Turbo Rebuild. Pleased with the final result, the loom looks a lot cleaner now:

Also gave the exhaust manifold a little coat of high temp paint to liven it up a little bit:

Did you have bother with the engine and box going away for rebuild.? Sounded like the guy knew his stuff... over the internet at least 👀

looks good, hope you manage to get the lump in! 😊

I’m in Peterborough actually. Got anything this way..? 😉

I get around with my work, which helps me with dropping off and collecting stuff.

Today was the day to finally get the engine and gearbox back into the car after ??? years of it being out... I say ??? as I have no-idea when it was last in the car.

First job was to clean out the engine bay as it got surprisingly dirty from just sitting outdoors under the cover with the rain. We then fitted the PAS pipes, heatshield, and exhaust manifold:

Next we got the flywheel, clutch and gearbox onto the engine:

And made my life a whole lot easier by fitting and wiring up the starter motor whilst I was at it.. (I fitted the heatshield after this photo)

Once it's all together, it was a case of dropping it back into the car..

And then fitted the engine mount, and torqued it all up to spec..

MY GOD There's not a lot of wriggle room for these engines in these cars... :punish.gif:

Had a bit of luck with Eurocarparts this week.. needed a new alternator for the Clio and saw they were having a 60% sale this week (to be fair they’ve got a bloody sale on every week!!)

Entered the details of my Clio onto their website and they said they could get me a Lucas alternator for circa £122 with an exchange unit, so I ordered one.

Went to pick it up today but when I compared it to the old unit, it wasn’t the right unit.

Thankfully the guy in ECP was helpful so cross referenced the part number on my old Alternator against his system and nipped off to find the right unit. Few minutes later returned with this:

An old Valeo unit that’s been refurbished in a Lucas box that should be £254.99

After a little bit of “negotiation” he agreed to honour the price of the other unit their system recommended, so I walked out with it having paid £121.44!

Got the recommendation that the “connector of doom” on the Clio 182 Engine looms responds well to a dab of dielectric grease, I got hold of some this week, and a syringe 💉 to inject it into the Female terminals of the connector:AA6C4C0E-0EC3-45B5-B598-F8685FBBA98B.webp
Will report back how that goes...?!

Had a day on the Clio today, and got the dielectric grease into all of the connections. Unfortunately the grease was too thick to be pushed thru the 0.5mm needle of the syringe, so I had to just use the Syringe itself. Worked well enough, and helped me force the grease into the connectors where I wanted it. Finally then got the relay/fuse box back together:

Then I fitted my new alternator, together with a trial fit of some of the power steering and air-con lines:

Had a couple of cheeky hours in the garage last night and made a start on the HVAC system. Radiator and fan is already prepared and assembled, but I'd recently got hold of an AC condenser, so I thought I would fit it:

However when I look at the old one I took of the car, the black anodised brackets are all rusty & sh1te, so I masked them up:
SAM_0452.webp
And gave them a little lick of gloss black paint to hopefully stop the tin worm from taking hold:

Whilst I was in the painting mood, I cleaned up the throttle body, and gave it a bit of a spruce up too. Wire wheel to get all of the old crap off... then a lick of etch primer:

followed by a couple of coats of Eastwood Aluma Blast paint:
