Clio Big Steve's RB Clio 182 Cup Restoration

Another productive day today and managed to button up a couple of things. First was to get the Track rod ends finished off so I can get the car back on it's wheels. Gave the new items a quick lick of paint to give a hope of protection:

Then it was just a case of Assembly:

Before they were bolted back onto the car, and the boots fastened with the correct Brown cable tie supplied with the kit:

I then gave the Low Pressure PAS pipes a quick polish up with a scotch-brite pad before fitting new seals, and then fitting to the car:

Then I dug the bonnet heatshield matting out and gave it a quick coat of Autoglym Black Dye (I know you love the stop-frame animations):

Then I could get the car bolted back together, rolled out of the garage and put to one side to give me the opportunity to get the R11 Turbo Back from the bodyshop. Wing, wheels and Bonnet on:

Not really happy to come out...

But once covered with her special fitted cover, it soon looked at home again!!

There could well be a few weeks before any further development is made on this thread now.. but don't worry, I'll be coming back to it!!

That is how they arrived back in the box @Ricardo The guys there are great, give me a PM if you want a contact email?
I was asking as there must be so many processes and finishes. I think it's great we all have the opportunity to resurrect any part no matter how old to factory condition or in a finish of our choice.

It brings me onto processes like soda blasting inlets, bead blasting, sand blasting. I'm still tempted to pick up a car that given time and space would be a long standing project between my daughter and I.

Picked up the Engine from @bloke on Saturday after he’s fully gone thru it since it was dropped off in January:

AF58C9CF-429B-4CA9-AF5F-017BD7627422.jpeg

It’s had:
  • Cylinder honing
  • Clio 197 Pistons
  • Clio 197 Cams
  • Supertech Valves
  • Mild head porting
  • New main and big end bearings
  • Metal idler pulleys
  • New dephaser pulley
  • New timing belt kit
Now just the gearbox ⚙️ to finish and then the engine should be in a position to be dropped back into the car.

Raised the CR a bit?

Nice work, I bet that will sound fab when its on song!

with the pistons and skimming cr will be up by 1 at least, not actually calculated it but going off rule of thumb of adding/removing 0.8-1mm changes it by 1.
should be around 12-12.5:1. am sure i read that just running the pistons gives 12.2:1 so we could be a touch over 12.5:1.

last one i built with 197 pistons and cams and little bit of head work but no skimming made 200bhp, my lad did one last month with very similar spec but piper cams, more work on the head and 30deg back cut on the valves. running bodies that made 221bhp and 177lb/ft torque, we did have a run of 224bhp but that was a bit of a spike. 221bhp was consistent though, bodies were possibly holding it back a little bit but i'd say only a few bhp, maybe five at most?

with steve's running normal inlet would be nice to see torque up to around 180lb/ft.

graph for it.
