Clio Big Steve's RB Clio 182 Cup Restoration

Won't happen without some sort of tech revolution. We literally dont mine enough of the metals needed for batteries, globally, to satisfy the UK car demand let alone ROW.

We need Mr Fusion.

You watch the Yanks start a war on Cocaine against Chile and Bolivia just so they can start mining Lithium from beneath the salt flats.

This and the Opium from Afghanistan will see them as the worlds biggest Class A AND battery dealers.

As we're all now bloody confined to our homes thanks to Chinese Flu, I figure I might as well continue to work on the Clio. I mean being confined in my house, or the garage is the same thing right..? 🤷‍♂️ :grin.gif:

I took the "new" rear axle to be powder-coated, so whilst that's being done, I took the old one off the car by removing the axle with the brackets attached so I didn't have to go removing the petrol tank. I'm going to get those brackets blasted and powder-coated too, so they needed to come off. The bolts were a right @rse to get off, even with my BIG BOY Impact gun.. I know it would have been a struggle on the car.

I got the front hubs back from the powder-coaters, they look great! but they needed a little clean up on the brake caliper mounting flanges, don't want the powder-coat in-between the hub and the caliper to melt if the brakes get hot and then the caliper becomes loose.. 😳

The inlet manifold had picked up a couple of small scratches and damage as it was being moved around my garage, so I thought I would give it a bit of a birthday. First I gave the lettering a polish, with some metal polishing wheels I have, in the drill. (Sorry for the crap photo, but you can just about see the difference it made)

Next it was a case of spraying the inlet manifold, and then carefully wiping off the paint that was on the letters, with a rag and some thinners, before it had chance to dry:

The finished result looks much better!

So as @Spooky requested, I dug the old GoPro camera out this morning and thought I would have a go at this V-logging malarky. The time spent editing and creating the video's is well spent at the moment!!!

The drivers door lock doesn't seem to be working, so I thought I would whip the door panel off .

When I whipped the door panel off I found the solenoid was unplugged so figured that was the only issue and plugged it in, unfortunately there does seem to be more of an issue with the lock, so I whipped it out. Whilst I was messing around with the door, I figured now was the right time to replace the window seal for a new one I came across, that hasn't got any rust or distortion. Hope you enjoy the video!

I then fitted a set of new rear axle bolts inside the car whilst I had access to the inside:

Then I spent a bit of time figuring out where the coolant hoses go!

She's coming along nicely now!!

How do choose which one to work on ?
Keep looking at my 182 And thinking I might just keep it and give it a refurb in a few years . Top stuff as always .

Thank you sir!!

I’ve been accelerating the work on the Clio over the 11 as I was pushing to get it done for the TurboRenault/ClioSport Festival. But I’ve got a distinct feeling that’s all going to go to sh1t now (like everything else) so I’m now just going to continue to split my time between this and the 11.

I really hope this goes ahead.

Read that as the country is in a good enough state for it to go ahead, not "fuck it lets do it anyway".
If everything gets cancelled but we get the green light to meet up , we could meet at my yard (Banbury) It’s pretty central to every one . Ample parking , grass for camping if required. And it would make me tidy up . Just a thought. Hopefully CSF goes ahead as I booked it in as a job on my work planner

Had a great day outside on the Clio today, even though the weather was bloody BALTIC for end of March!! 🥶 Definitely still thick beanie hat and layers weather!

Fitted all of the "Front Bearing Elements" as Renault call them:
  • Bilstein Coil-Overs
  • Drive-shafts
  • Anti-Roll-Bar Bushes
  • Hubs
  • Brake Discs
  • Brake Calipers
  • Brake hoses
...and had another go with the old Go-Pro for your viewing pleasure (No surprising where I got an idea for the music @jas_racing )

Was a little concerned how the BigRedd refurbished caliper and carriers would look in dark blue, but now I've fitted them, I'm chuffed to bits how they look! Here's the Offside:

I've still loads of stuff planned to get done so I think my projects will see me thru a few more months of the Coronavirus Lockdown 🔒

Thanks for watching/reading :)
