Twingo Adey's Twingo GT (F4R+T 2.0ltr engine swap)

Hopefully itll hold its own a little when put against some bigger stuff. Its still doing its daily duties really well, 50ish miles a day for the commute, mainly motorways (need to sort cruise control and the longer 5th gear out) but gets a good thrashing a few days of the week, B lane blast all the way home as the weather been nice recently (y)

One of my tyres was on the limit so needed to get some new tread. I've been searching for a few weeks and noticed that toyo have released a new tire. It's called the TR1 and looks to be a T1R replacement. I was actually a very big fan of the early T1R but I'm adament they changed the compound or something. I was also a fan of the uniroyal rainsport 3 that this looks similar too so I decided to get a pair fitted. I will bed them in for a few miles and report back. I'm no track boy anymore so no need for running legal sticks and with the mileage I cover I needed something of a decent price that I could have some fun on. These cost me a shave under 90 fitted for a pair! the lads in the shop were quite intrigued by them too. I'll see how they hold up (y)

Went on a little day trip today and used the twingo. Ride down the m5 then m4 to Cardiff. On the way we encountered a 197....... with a full tank and and extra passenger the twingo can pull up on and have to back off against a 197 well in excess of legal speeds. (the mrs got a small bit of footage but it's very incriminating) im very chuffed to be fair and the other driver found it quite amusing too 😁 its not often I get to see what it's like against other Renault's.

Also picked up some 172 cup seats with the hope I can mod them a little and get a bit more support whilst pushing on, the gt seats are very flat. Easiest option would of been the RS twingo seats but these were close by so worth a look.

Tyres have been really quite good so far. I've started to lean on them more and they give good feed back and really decent grip. I'm not running huge power though so not sure how they would cope with a decent slug of torque.

I was tinkering a bit this weekend and decided I wanted to get some cold air to the filter, probably not needed on my car really due to the intercooler being huge. Anyway the stock airboxs had a dedicated feed from the front of the car. running a pipe off that would of been the best bet but it pointed in the wrong direction. Out came the hacksaw and soldering iron for a little plastic welding. Chopped the pipe off and turned it 180degrees so it pointed toward the filter a little more. Added a 90degree silicone pipe I had kicking about and now theres air going towards the filter. If I find some ali sheet kicking about I might look at paneling it off. Done more to tinker than any real performance gain.

hello Adey, can I pick your brain please? was going to buy a GFB Atomic manual boost controller and wanted to know is it easy to fit in situ and accessible, thought you would be the person to ask, couldn't find you on the twingo site.

@waveydave I wouldn't fit one tbh. the car runs an electronic boost control valve controlled via the ECU. if you bypass this I think you can run some extra boost pressure but only so much before you run into issues. Also the stock injectors are already at 100% duty on the stock setup, increasing the amount air in there without increasing the fuelling will land you in trouble with either headgasket or piston issues. I'd consider keeping the money for now, put it towards some 172 injectors and a remap

This^^ the ecu controls boost, rarely any need to fit a manual bypass on a modern

Not much going on with this now, plan is to run it till blyton and then afterwards either 1 of 2 things, sell it or fit the bigger turbo and upgrade the clutch and possibly the fuel system again. Could do with getting the alignment done and set a little more aggressively. Need to find/borrow a cg lock for blyton too to try and hold me in place a little better.

New stickers from a mate at work. Thought the new rear badge would be a funny little touch. Initially the rear badge was all I asked for but the side things are a "scene" thing so got in on that too 😁

I haven't had much time to tinker on the twingo recently, sorting out a wedding and reception kinda took priority. Anyway I did manage to squeeze in the odd job here and there over the last 4 weeks.

Front brake pads were replaced, the pug caliper accepts 2 different size pads based on the vehicle they are on, I went for the larger pad for more surface area and hopefully heat management. I didnt go wild with anything fancy as it's my 50mile a day commuter car so threw on some oe equivalent pagids. I did flush the system with some type200 brake fluid though. I quickly finished the bleed this morning actually. Pedal is nice and hopefully will take some light track abuse.

I also lowered the drivers seat a touch. I think after removing the under seat spacers and slapping some washers back in to keep seat level it worked out at about 17ish mm drop. Along with that I dug out an old schroth harness and fitted it in within the msa regs. It's only for blyton and if I suddenly find myself wanting to do more track days I have an idea for a harness bar in the back.

I'd not sorted anything for the exhaust tip I removed along time ago, had a mate slap some spare pipe on the back box so it now exits behind the car.

All in all it just needs some go go juice and a clean and shes ready for a laugh at the weekend.

The beast twiglet drove to blyton, had the crap kicked out of it and then drove home. It has been returned to duty and i haven't even pumped the tires back up yet lol....... I am very surprised but very pleased at how well it held its own. A little stiffer to stop the roll, better seats, some sticky tires and brake upgrades would be a great addition i think. Proper little fighter.

What does it rev to at the moment? All i had was speedo when i had a go lol. Goes really well for a small cc engine.

Adey need your help with my twingo gt please, when I accelerate the car seems to lose power, like the turbo has died and the warning light on the dash the little heart monitor in a box, switch off the engine and it seems to reset itself and drive ok , any ideas please,
