Need seam seal and gravitex next.

Finish day off, bottom of N/S wing was thin and pitted so chop off and let a section in, dropped a BooBoo when I did other side...........didn't put a swage in for drain, so I didn't bother on this side, I'll pit a spacer in between bottom of wing and sill, thick washer or something so water can get out............can't be worse than when I got car.......

Bent return in on front edge, and a hole for bottom fixing, quick wizz over with flappy.

Had a poke round bumper bracket area, think It'll end up full section below headlight by the time I've done, very bottom edge of chassis rail in same area towards the tie to subframe will need some metal, but on the whole front isn't half bad.

Mate if I Had have of your commitment my Gordini would be done by now ,
I have some head lights and indicators and a tidy tail gate if you need them I decided no more mk2s for me .

I'm pushing hard at this one, feel like clock is ticking against me, I want it done and sound, not fecking about with bits and bats......I'll take my foot off the pedal when all welded, painted and front sub has been off, blasted, back on and It's back on the key.
Poss interested in lights, as one has a stone chip and is letting dirt in, ain't bolloxed but as the car gets better it'll show up.

Front N/S bumper bracket area today, not a lot left by the time I was happy grot gone............

134292

Little piece in chassis leg, then cardboard template, then panel cut and bent, clamped in, try wing, measure other side etc etc.......

134293

Plug into existing, try wing again, measure other side........

134294

Seam top, that's enough for today, need to make bracket and weld in, check fit of bumper, light, indicator etc

134295

Make bumper bracket, not exact replica, near enough, make pen mark where bends will be and then just let slitting disc ' walk ' along line, makes folding 2mm steel a lot easier

134452

But I cut it for a right angle.....and its slightly greater, so weld wasn't as neat cos gap was a bit big..........

134453

Clamp in , check wing and indicator,

134454

Welder her up, happy chappy

134455

Scuff it all up and work bilt into seams

134456

Are you bored yet ?

If weather gets milder I might paint sill and quarter, try and put some of car back together, if it doesn't then I'll spin it back round and do other bumper bracket area and pull engine and box, drop sub.

Floor bilt and zinc primed topside and underneath, zinc'd everywhere else I had missed like inner rear quarters etc, seam seal, gravitex and paint to do after I finished rear quarter window repair.

Chopped it out, leaving pitted lower in......getting a piece in there without causing major distortion and body prep and paint drama was a no go....so i attacked it with knotted brush and then welded into the biggest pits, ground it back, let a piece in on inner and then a piece in outer.

View attachment 132733

Above pic is just tacked in, I welded it in fully after......but had a few days off cos had metal in my eye, I'm careful and always wear goggles but something got in.
Anyone who has experienced it will know how bad it can be, I've had sparks in twice before and It's not amusing...I'd like to say how brave I was when the Doctor was picking it out with a pin.........but I can't

Some filler and a blast of primer, bit of stopper and a flat when it's hardened off, I'm going to blow it in with the airbrush, that's why I'm trying to keep the repair as small as possible.
Although I'm painting the sill and rear quarter I want to keep the reigns on painting too much of the car, weather is not ideal, and if i make one panel A1, then the tidy others start to look tainted, just want it to be nice, not mint.
Awesome repair on that 🆒

Couple of afternoons at it, messy gravitex .........all underside repairs, N/S arch repairs and sill done.

135305

Need gravitex on sill to go off, it's a bit cold and my Aldi Halogen heater has died......so it's taking a while, I don't want to hit with a lot of solvent and ruin it........the urge is to blat some paint on.....must resist.

So I've been on with other bits, airbrushed rear quarter window repair in, I'm under no illusion it'll be invisible, but I'll let it have a couple of weeks to harden off and then cut it back with some 2000 and see if I can blend it in, if it looks a bugger in future I'll do full panel, but as I've said before ....blah blah yadda yadda.......

Scrubbed window and seal up separately , sprayed with some lube and put my window cord in, and popped it back in place,

135306

Stripped rest of stripes off door

135307

Time for some PPC.......................Pikey Paint Correction
First a quick clay bar

135308

Then using the finest equipment, an old drill bought with tiger tokens 25 years ago, with usefully knackered bearings giving a lovely DA action, fitted with a flurry mop I retrieved from the skip a similar time ago and the finest cheap tack cutting compound that was at the back of the shelf with added H20 to revitalise it.........it was dried up.
From this .........

135309

To this......sealed with period wax donated by one of my Mums friends dead husbands ..............probably

135310

There's a few chips and scratches that want touching in, but I'll look at them when it's on.
See how weather fairs, try and get paint done sooner rather than later, cos I'm kicking my heels a bit until car is turned round.

Couldn't resist it..........next painting opportunity was next Monday and they are coming to fit smart meter......power down at some point......so I blasted a tenner on a new halogen heater from local poundstretcher .................I just spend spend spend......sweep up, mask up

135435

Quart of paint and blow it on, nice and thick

135436

Do me fine, that will.

I'm can now finish all cavity waxing and spend next week or two putting it back together then spin it round and start front.

Spent some time over the weekend on 5, cavity waxed both sills, doorposts and rear quarters, put some in the jacking points also but I need to do again as car was on deck so I'm not happy I got enough in.
I've left all the blanking plugs out of the sills in an attempt to let them vent, before all this I emptied the inside, hoovered all shit up and gave it all a wipe down with wet cloth.

136369

There's virtually no sound deadening in a campus, bulkhead and that's it other than two bitumen panels under carpet that were on the inner wheelarch/boot......these went when I repaired the lower part of them.
I was going to go to scrappy and get some bits to cut up and put under the carpet.......but the one I use has got more and more expensive, to the point I'd imagine he'd want twenty quid for some that would normally be thrown away....... so fuck him.......my brother had some insulation for under wood floors, I cut some up and put it under carpet, it'll either work or not, but it cost nowt.

136370

I haven't gone mad with it, I'll re visit it if needed.
Took me longer than expected to get interior back in, boxes of bits, tubs of bolts, seat sliders needing attention, bit of black paint here and there, degrease seat bases........all takes time , but worth it as now I've got some room back.

136371

French exchange students sports bra interior has come up well..............
N/S door back on, stainless bolts my dad turned down and homemade bushes worked really well, not an ounce of play, bumper back on.
Spin it round and crack on with last bit of welding on O/S bumper bracket area.
