3 Door 5 Campus

Lighter nights I've started having an hour or so, calmed down on weekend now weldathon is over,

Bottom to top............ old..........ATe reman.........Waf Eaton Engineering quality, preloved, rattle can rebuild.....
Bay cleaned, only bits painted are chassis legs and inner wing panels that were plated, rest original paint with a bit of poundshop polish on, servo cleaned up and a new master on.

Sub on with suspenders, rack and one brake pipe re-flared, short one new, gravity bled for now

2019-04-07 140627-2737357.webp

Short springs on temp........tie wrapped some pipe insulation to pack them out so I could fit them....wary of them slopping about before I drop car and trapping new top bearings in an awkward position and damaging them.......obviously it won't get driven on these at all

2019-04-07 140606-2478376.webp

It's only going on temp, then I can drop it of stands and roll it under lump, drop that in then jack it back up and put shafts in.....it's all messing about up and down but easiest way of doing it at home........car has to be out of way of bike, tight on room etc etc
It's always the things you didn't expect that throw your planning out, despite box being wet with gunge, stay bar to engine bolt snapped when I split box off motor....seized in big time

Tried this........

2019-04-03 195241-1365101.webp

Failed, so luckily as it wasn't in a blind hole, I just centre punched it and drill it out in increments until there was only a thin bit left, small chisel cut down, and then folded it in on itself, quick run down with a tap, sorted.

Degreased box and tried cheap tack clutch, I'd hoped it would be a re packaged LUK............but looks like it's more likely melted down rikshaws.......Be reet...

Tart motor up a bit, but I'm not burning hours away at it, I've washed it down with white spirit, and got a production line rust bathing brackets.....bit of satin, just so it looks presentable, but I'm pleased it's coming together now.

Is it wrong how therapeutic I find the 'oppertunities' you find on this build?

Spent sooooo many hours on broken, seized, rounded bolts it's not even funny. Usually when I shout from garage only got 2 bolts left and will be in......6hrs later lol

My favourite is no clear access or visibility....like an Elise or Vx220 makes it so so much more fun lol

Looking good though ;)

More good stuff going on . Love the commitment . I hope we are all invited to the maiden voyage . There’s a few of us that follow your thread that would gladly buy you a pint or two for your hard work and entertaining words and pics .

Don't think Lad will be driving it any time soon, insurance is too dear, probably hang on and wait till it's nearer a grand than over two and a half......
Got an urge to take it abroad on a jolly though, so I might use missus's no claims bonus, as she's not got a car ATM and put a ticket on it, shake it down, currently stands me at 800 quid all in, front springs and an exhaust are only big ticket needs, few cosmetics he wants me to do.
I do it 'cos I enjoy the challenge, I don't take myself too seriously, but prefer to be a Dunna than a Gunna.

Has anyone got any recommendations on bumper treatments, such as this?

wurth plastic dye grey bumpers trim interior dye restorer free post 4011231834933 | eBay

Bumpers are faded and dry, front worst, plastic conditioner works for a few days, the boy wants to paint them black......I've told him he can whistle....long term plan is everything above the waistline will be colour coded ( tailgate trim, lower/upper light trims and mirror bodies) but bumpers stay OE

Sits tidy with lump back in, Clio 14's fill arches, pity these springs gotta go, 'cos I think it looks bang on, hopefully GT springs won't be too much higher when I get them made.
You can see bumper just test fitted is very grey and dull, I'm not sure black is way to go.....that's why I want to try a fresher newer grey.

Been following from the start, some fantastic work going on here.

I’ve probably got a similar journey coming up, not soon though, I work at a significantly slower pace 🐌

Most products I know of will go darker than you want so can’t really help, you could try back to black, from experience it doesn’t go black, just a darker shade of grey

Regarding bumpers, do not waste your time with trim gel as its only temporary.

Heatgun is not that good and makes the plastic more brittle and very easy to melt the plastic, not great im my experience and does not work well on some plastics.

Your best bet is using a Si02 based trim restorer - Gtechniq C4 permanent trim restorer, Gyeon Q2 Trim etc. With proper prep (scrub down with apc) you will get 18month out of it easy. Not cheap £30 ish for a bottle that will easily do all the trim on the car.

I have used both of the above, currently just done the Kangoo with Gyeon, it looks great. The bumpers were white before application. Looks very oem finish.

Yep, thought they'd be some good gear about, not halfrauds shiny spray.
I use autoglym plastic conditioner as a quick fix, bike and Megvan and for newer abs it's fine, but 5 bumpers are dry, I had a fuck about with the autoglym when I first got the car and after a quick shower it streaked, then another it was gone.
It's not top of list but I wanted input beforehand with recommendations I trust, and that's what I now have , so thank you gents.
All I've got to do now is spend more on a bottle of potion than I did on a clutch kit......hee hee

The Gyeon has been on a couple of weeks and had quite a bit of heavy rain on it which has not made a difference, time will tell i guess but its rated as good as the others longivity wise. I used the Gtechniq on my Clio dci about 3 years ago and it still does not look too bad !

Prob need 2 applications to cover yours, i managed 2 applications easy with 30ml bottle on the Kangoo though, and still got 5mm or so left in the bottle. Follow the application instructions to the tee, and allow 24hrs to dry inside if poss, as it cant get wet in that period..i took a massive gamble doing mine outside, luckily had a dry spell for a couple of days.

Showed the boy Brigsy's Kangoo and it got the nod of approval , so that's the way I'll go, It'll be lastish on list but I'm happy there's something that will do the job and not be a permanent bollox up of the bumpers.
As soon as the car is running, it's getting booted out the garage, so I'll probably take the bumpers back off to do clean and do application, then I won't risk getting them wet.
Shafts in, wiring, exhaust and fluids in this weekend, hopefully, rocker box might hold things up as it's taking some prep, other than that I'll have kept to my mid April 'back on the key' estimate.

The oem powder coat on the c series rocker cover is hard to get off, i had a right carry on getting it off recently when prepping one for paint.
