Twingo Twingo RS133 trackday build

Totally forget to update here for quite some time:negative.gif:

Happend so much in the meanwhile, i dont know where to start.
Right after the crash a bought a new twingo with broken engine, i didnt want to rush it and get it back on the road so i could do some laps in 2023.
Didnt know if i want to do a ''clubsport'' kinda build again or go full trackday build with the twingo and even dont road register it.
So i first had to do some soul searching before i could start working on the car and make a bit of a plan what i wanted to do with it in the future.

Still own the 197 and thats become a bit of a ''clubsport'' car now, 2 buckets, half cage, 6points, and so on.
The R26 i'm still using as my daily driver, absolute love it how it is.

So i decided that i gonna do a full track build on the twingo, as less compromise as posible, no MOT rules that stand in my way. Pure trailer queen in the future.
a one of the top priorities is weight saving.

First things first, i fully striped the interior, stripped down the loom, only the essentials stayed, and then dropped it of for a full rollcage.
Also i needed to drop the fuel tank, and take out the windows in order to get it prepped for the cage builder.
I went for a crommobilene version so it is as lighte as possible, 25% lighter than normal steel. Full cage is 37kg.

The dashboard is flocked for a real racecar look, was in doubt if i should do it, but once it was out it made sence to do it now.
I dont have picture of it yet for some reason i didnt took one.

Made a trip to the UK, 1502km in 25hours, took the ferry from calais to dover and drove to wales to pick up some loverly carbon parts @radcomposites, bought the whole package, so i hope it sames some kg.
I took my wifys twingo diesel, the only car with good fuel consumption i own:clapping.gif:

After the car got back from the cage builder it was time to prep it for some paint.
I really overlooked the amount of time it would take to paint the inside:read.gif:
Sanding and grinding everything, masking, primer, sanding, base coat multiple times, clearcoat.
It was a whole new experience for me, i enjoyed it even tho i had to go deep to get this job done.
After so many evenings after work its done and im really really pleased with the end result.

Primer:

Basecoat, i went for the same colour as the exterior. TNK gris altica.

There are left so many shitty jobs to do in the interior to get it back together and, i have to relocate the bonnet release opener because the cage is in the way, loom back in place and secure it, find a good location for the battery, en a whole lot of other stuf.

A friend and fellow twingo rs driver 3d printed a bracked to secure my lithium battery, from prototype mesuring to end product:

Next thing to do is fitting the dashboard, i first need to trim it around the rollcage, i planned to make some templates of it to measure where i need to trim it.
Curious to see how that will end.

I will try to update some a bit often

Thanks guys!

This is what i've have done since last time.
It was about time that i could take the twingo home so i can start working on the technical stuff.
In order to do so the dashboard needs to be fitted and after that the windows back in.

For the dashboard to fit i had to cut a lot so it would go around the rolcage, not my favorite kind of job as it is a lot of trail and error en in the end it cost a lot of time.
But once finish i was really happy with the result, it took me at least 15 times to try and fit it in, then back out cut some more,...but is was worth it.

A day later my co-worker glued the windows back in so the car can be transported back home.
New front windshield and the 3 rear ones are polycarbonate.

I bought this car as a non runner with broken engine, price was right and the engine from my previous twingo survived so i could not be bothered with what was wrong with this one. A few weeks before the engine died it was replaced, then they replaced it for a used engine they put a new timing belt kit and clutch on it.
after that it lasted 3 weeks or so.
The clutch was as good as new so i wanted that of the engine, when i pulled the gearbox of this is what happend:grin.gif:

I thing they bought a used bare engine and they needed to swap the old flywheel over.
As the car was a rental car at the nurburgring they want as less downtime as possible so waiting on parts is often not an option for them.
My guess, they had no new flywheel bolts so they put back the old ones with some loctite on it, perhaps additionally overtight them.
All 7 broke exact same cut at all the bolts. so flywheel layed lose in the gearbox.

When cleaning the garage i had to move the carbon parts, was rude not to take a picture in the sun.
Can't wait to put them on the car.

Next jobs:
- Engine in
- Refresh the front suspension, new antirollbar, wheelbarings, powerflex, wishbones and so on.
- Wiring for the relocated battery
- Swap over the rear axle from previous twingo
- Probably 50 little other jobs along the way

Thanks for watching again, :read.gif:

How far did you go stripping the loom? Its something I looked at doing with mine as so much is removed but wasnt sure how far to take it back.

Time to update the threat :clapping.gif:

Obviously i went to the nurburgring a few times

I ordered a AST 5200 2 way coilover, lead time 3-4weeks, later on more about that.

So in the meanwhile i had some other parts laying around waiting to get on the car finally.
I bought a clio v6 airbox, the biggest one that fits the small engine bay.
Made a cold air feed from both airducts in the front bumper with some 51mm flextube.

Got my hands on a used half collcage, it was red allready so matched good with the rest of my interior.

In the meanwhile AST deliverd the 5200 coilovers, it was the first time they made them for a Twingo RS.
Build quality is insane!
1 Small thing didnt fit right, so my twingo is @ AST HQ at the moment. So they can measure everything on the car.
Service is second to none, really great guys who instand want to help me.

As the twingo is out of use, it was a good oppertunity to take the daily driver to the nurburgring, The R26 felt so good i did 15laps in saturday.
