Twingo Twingo RS133 trackday build

Hi All,

In this thread i will be posting about my journey to build a fast and fun trackday twingo.
I've bought a RS133 to start this al, my main focus is to upgrade the suspension and brakes.
I won't go crazy on weight saving, i really like clubsport interiors so 2 bucket seats with 4/6points harnesses and a radiodelete will be as far that i will go.
With the power it will have in the end, it won't matter how much it weigths.
At a later stage i want to swap it to megane 225 engine, Adey inspired me big time to do this project.
I have been collecting parts the last weeks, soon it will be time to start building.

I've had loads of other RS models through the years, Clio 16valver, williams, Clio 2 RS, Clio 2 RS Cup racer, sevaral megane 2 RS: 225 ph1 black gold, R25, R26, Clio 3 RS 197.
Current cars are the RS133 and my megane 2 grandtour RS with megane 265 engine and Hybrid 20t turbo.

In this first post i will keep a list of all the parts i've used:

Engine:
- Powerflex engine mount buches

Gearbox:
- Stock

Suspension:
- Gaz gold coilovers
- PMS solid topmounts + strutbrace
- Powerflex : rearaxle, wishbones, rear dampers topmounts.
- R2 rally tarmac front ARB 22mm
- PMS rear ARB kit
- PMS Rear axle stiffening profile kit
- PMS camber/toe shims rear axle
- PMS Stud kit
- Camberbolts front

Wheels & Tyres:
- Team dynamics 1.2 16x7 ET 40 antrecite
- Yokohama advan AD52 195-45-16

Brakes:
- Megane 3 RS brembo calipers
- 300x24 discs
- EBC RPX pads
- Steelflex brake lines
- New rear discs and calipers
- DS2500 pads
- Motul RBF660

Interior:
- R2 Rally seatmounts
- Megane R26R carbon bucket seats
- Megane R26R sabelt 6point harness
- Radio delete
- 1 Din gauge holder: oil temp, oil pressure, eventually turbo pressure.

The tourer is a lot of fun, full meg2rs front suspension, r26 rearbeam and meg2rs cup dampers and cooksport springs makes it handling just like a normal meg2rs.
I kept the sleeperlook as i only used the front rs grills in the normal megane bumper, people are always suprised.

As everyone is doing meg2 brembo conversion on twingos i like to try and get the meg3rs brembos to fit on the hubs with 300mm discs.
So today i testfit the pads to see if they are not to big for the 300mm disc, i think this could work if its fits in 16ich.WhatsApp Image 2022-01-05 at 22.57.49 (1).webpWhatsApp Image 2022-01-05 at 22.57.49.webpWhatsApp Image 2022-01-05 at 22.57.50.webp

Last week i recieved some more parts, this time a R2 front ARB 22mm with new bushings and mounting brackerts, R2 rear beam holders they are reinforced, and some Meyle HD droplinks.
Im waiting on a big parcel from PMS, hope it will come this week.

In the meanwhile i changed the rings on the speedo and rpm dail from oem silver one to black ones.
Its a small change, but i really didn't like the silver ones.

@Adey, i dont have rs specialist sourced them for me. the front ARB is way to stiff makes the rs understeer a lot more. so im gonne take it off again. and try it later with the stiffer suspension on it.

Yesterday i've tried the wheel/brake combo if it would fitt under 16'' wheels.
I've bought Evo corse sanremo wheels 16x7 ET39, still need a 3mm spacer to clear the megane 3 calipers, its looks massive under suchs a small car.

I was wondering how it would react to a stiffer front arb. Generally over here we add one to the rear to reduce the understeer, it makes a big difference especially for those with the heavier 2.0ltr swap

I have a pms rear arb ready to be fitted, along with some new discs/pads and calipers. Also bought a pms rearaxle stiffening profile kit and some powerflex black bushes.

Some parts came in and i made some time to try the seat setup, the R2 side mounts combined with my sabelt seats were too low, i almost sat on the floor and that didnt give a good seating position as my legs lay flat on the floor and i couldnt bent my knees.
As a alternative i got some omp bases with runners and sidemounts, i've only tried everything together but i didnt have the chance to try them in the car.

Got a nice suprise delivery from GAZ, i've didnt expected them so soon.
Also bought RiadHP gauges for oil temp, oil pressure and boost, along with a 1din houlder and sandwitchplate for the sensors.

Little update on the interior of the twingo.

I've removed the rear seats and seatbelts and put in a ktec boot mat.
Removed the radio, subwoofer and speakers in the back.
Im gonna change the oem front seatbelts to black ones as there is no more orange in the interior.
After that i start working on the front seats, remove the original ones and fitted the base frames and the passanger seat., then it start raining, hope i can do the drivers side tomorrow.
Also bought some nice pedals made by someone on instagram, owns a twingo rs and a clio r27. Nice bit of kit.

Spend some time on the interior today. First job was to fit the new pedal covers, they came with a mold for the drilling points and that made it quite easy to do.
After the pedals it was time for the steeringwheel, i've bought a bosskit with a resistor for the airbag, also easy job to install everything.
In the back i mounted a rear brace from OMP, i've also use is to hold the seatbelts, whats everyones opinion about the seatbelts? My shoulders are lower than the holes in the seat.

Some great stuff going into this build @Daan2d !! 👍👍

Be careful with that harness mounting position. There’s a lot of stuff online that states you need to have the mounting position further up towards your shoulders.

Yeah this is definitely too low for starters, at least to MSUK spec they have very strict rules on angles. The bigger concern is that rear strut/antirollbar is 100% not rated to take that sort of load and in the event of a crash you'll likely just rip it clean off the top of the suspension and you'll go through the windscreen. There are a few people in UK who make specific harness bars for Twingos, FastEddy/Edward Timperly on the Twingo Owners FB page makes one out of proper roll cage tubing and it mounts directly into where the rear seats did so its an actual secure mount.

Edit: Heres the official documentation for reference

It's within the 45% for angle so fine on that point but definitely not suitable to hang a harness off. Please don't crash 🤞🏻👍🏻

I know when I measured it with my seat in my fixed position, going to the seat belt mounting points (so lower than this bar) it was around 55 degrees. Obviously with the higher bar, slightly farther back will help degree wise but still going to be quite extreme and the less the better.

I appreciate your advice guys, I will contact eddy for a good solution.
The location of the belts is the same as my 2005 clio 2 cup racer car back in the day, but that was on the rollcage and not on a thin bolt in strutbrace. Also that was 8-10years a go so a lot can be change in terms of safety and regulations in motorsport offcourse.
Meantime I use the original seat belt.

Next thing i gonna do is fitting the CAE shifter, anyone on here who runs one? They came with the steel shifter cables with metal connections to the gear selector and shifter mechanism.
On my ZPO for my r26 is used the original cables, bought new ones before fitting at the time and it felt really good, atleast i never had the feeling i would need upgrade steel cables with metal connection for a better and director feel.
So is there anyone who runs a CAE with the oem cables?

So another week over, another update.

First of all, i bought a bar from fast eddy and its on its way to the netherlands as we speak.

It was time to fit the CAE shifter, what a shitload of work did that require, its way less work on a megane 2/3 rs.
Seats out, front exhaust clamp lose, exhaust heatshields out, battery and ecu out, it took me a few hours to complete the job.
After that i fitted the volantech cruise control panel behind the wheel.

I also took the wishbones out for new balljoints and powerflex black bushed, very straight forward job.

The spare few hours a got left this week I started working on the F4RT engine, sump needs to be swapped for a clio F4R sump to fit the 5 speed gearbox.
Its getting a new cambelt and waterpomp.
Im in doubt about wether i let the inlet manifold, rocker cover and engine mount support powdercoat/spraycan paint or dont bother about it and put the engine in as it is, that are your thoughts?

Small update here guys.

I swapped the sump over from a F4R en test fitted the bracked for the coilpack.

The twingo is now sitting on my drivewat on jack stands, i removed the rear axle and stripped it down.
I've brought it to a friend who's gonna weld in a pms stiffening profile kit, its from a 172/182 and wont fitt in all plases as the rear beam is slightly different.

Start working on the front suspension, pms topmounts on the front and i tried to fit the gaz coils.
They didnt fit, the made them for 172/182 fitment on the hub, now waiting on new front shocks.

By accident i found some oz f1 wheels in 7.5x16 ET37 new old stock, 5 brand new alloys.
Not sure about what tyres to fit on them, most likely same uniroyal rainsports or michelin ps3.

Enough said, the pictures will show the progress of the last weeks!
