5 GT Turbo The second coming…. The F4Rt saga

Today’s Renault 5 antics saw me remove the carpet and some of the matted sound deadening to check for holes and there was no surprise to find three holes that will need patching and a fourth on the rear wheel tub.

Oh the joys 😂

I’m going to chip off the rest of the sound deadening this weekend and may attempt to clean the carpet if I can be arsed.

I’ll wait for the cage to be delivered in November and then tackle the welding up of holes as the two at the front shown in pictures will pretty be where the front roll cage weld plates will need to go.

Good work Mark... wonder if the SSi4 could be adapted to measure wheel speed from each corner ie 420d working with MVSS1 MVSS2 SVSS1 SVSS2 ...

420d only measures MVSS1 from pin 1M - Left wheel. The other wires on the loom i.e. 1K, 1I & 2R are redundant :(
Ah ok that’s interesting. I had plans to use it for boost by gear/rpm so wondering if I can still do this by measuring just one driven wheel.

I was thinking the same. Dr Chocolate (@DaveL485) pointed me in the right direction as we all look at the 420d/440 select diagram/manual, hence, taking it for granted that there are 4-speed inputs. When I do finally get around to fitting the engine, I still feel like connecting sensors to pins 1K, 1I & 2R ... hoping the software will pick up the signals ... hoping that the pins have tracks on the board haha.

we just fitted a wheel speed sensor for road speed, like you said only pin 1m works on mvss. Nothing else worked.

The welder is coming tomorrow to hopefully patch it all up on the drive.

I finished the shifter install today, I needed a new set of c-clip pliers and they did the trick perfectly so glad that’s all sorted.

My Mrs has borrowed a carpet cleaner for the house so of course I stole it to use on the 5 carpet to see if I could save it. I reckon with a bit more time and elbow grease I can get it presentable. I need some slightly stronger detergent and it’ll be usable.

Before.

The shifter is all connected up. Just need to fiddle with it to get the gear selection perfect.

When I do carpets I lay it on the floor, soak it in hot water with a couple of washing tabs dissolved in it, leave it for 20 min and then get the Karcher on it for a good close up blasting. Then its just a case of hanging it up to drain & dry (best done in the summer obvs). Works quite well I find.

Had some welding done today. I could only get my hands on some zinc primer today so covered it with that and have some seam sealer to splodge over the top when this drys.

Will also remove the sound deadening when I get time.

I got busy with the seam sealer earlier, did underneath of course too. I couldn’t resist a quick start up, it sounds savage.

Next step is chase up my roll cage and get that fitted. Give the carpet another once over but beforehand just tidy up the floor by removing any surface rust and adding a bit of paint for good measure, then I’ll whack the carpet down.

I was debating removing the sound deadening stuff, one section came off easy but the others seems a massive ball ache and thenI thought to myself what’s the point saving a few KGs if I’ve got 400hp. 😂

I then need two bucket seats, rails and a set of harnesses.

I am about to acquire some wider arches from Matty Clements so the Ronals can go to be replaced by some wider rims with sticky tyres.

I’m going to switch out the suspension, likely go with Gaz again.

Run new fuel lines.

Get an MOT (pray it passes)

Get it mapped and make lots of power.
