21 Turbo The Scrapyard Quadra

Saturday I spent half a day cleaning the Meglio just before it sold and Sunday I had child duties in the morning so a reduced capacity 21-time weekend this weekend. In the interim since the last work, I had taken the bits of chassis I removed to the blasters and collected them, then splashed them with BHH80.

So I cleaned up the weld sites and cracked on. Had to wrestle this one into place a bit, I think I bent/warped it a little when I took it out maybe bit it eventually fitted up nice.

Once it was back in, all the spot welds were filled back in and i'd added some seams as well I started painting - I think it was 8pm by the time hunger forced me inside!

Sunday I welded back in the bit on the bulkhead, good bit of welding, got the settings just right I think. The part slotted back in place really nice too, as opposed to the wrestling match with the other part.

Briefly surveyed the DISASTER area that is my garage, shit gets everywhere!

Cleaned up the passenger jack point, this is in good nick as it was replaced in 2016

Then got painting again until I ran out of time (takes longer than you think!). Brush painting the underside etc as it'll be covered in Gravitex anyway so finish doesn't matter. Nice thick brush coat :)

Got 2 afternoons in over the weekend. It feels like progress to time invested is dissatisfyingly low at the moment.

Started cleanup on the back underside, there are some alcoves in the bracing that I had to get into so had to cut & bend it a bit.

Absolutely stacks of seam sealer crammed in here but still hasn't stopped the red monster creeping in

Cleaned the dirt out of the back arch tubs and they look good in the most part so I havent taken the stone chip off. Cleaned and ready for a go over with gravitex at a later date.

Didnt get away completely though. Fuel tank mount looked ready to drop off so I took it right off, cleaned and prepped to weld back on

Looking better

The spare wheel well, that hole was for me to access the fuel sender in the tank previously. That will all be cut out for a new, nicer panel fitted in there at some point.

Found some grot hidden in the corner of the OSR arch under some brackets, was well hidden but once I got in there....you know the drill :(

I made the bits to patch it and got them welded in, chucked a load of Hydrate 80 on where i'd been working and that was that! Time for a valentine steak with Mrs L485 :) :)

by the time this is finished the body kitted Clio will have rotted away
As opposed to having a Dauphine thats already rotted away? :D :D
You are going to have a nice fleet of Renaults, with the sweet V6 as well.
The replacement for the Meglio is arriving Friday too, I shouldnt have, but I did. All I have left to do is make up a convincing web of lies and deceit to conving the OH that it was a good idea.

I took Thurs/Fri off work in expectation of doing a day with a trailer moving a number of 4-wheeled terror machines around which turned out to be Friday, so I wasted half of Thursday in bed because fuck it why not, then did the afternoon in the garage just finishing up the stuff from the weekend.

I welded up and treated the bent flaps (fnarr fnarr)

Then I reassembled that rust hole in the corner

Re-attached the fuel tank bracket

x20210218_172556_RS.jpg

...and treated the whole area with Hydrate 80. I might try and steal an evening this week to paint the Bonda primer over it. I still have some clean up to do on the very back where the rotisserie mounts, and also I have to do the rear arch mods for the Europa cup look / to fit the 18" wheels, and weld up my rear arches too - watch out for a possible group buy on rear arch repair panels if @Mark_L can replicate them!
