The Campus Turbo 'in stock' build

Looking for
209aei
A t25

There is a t25 with the correct exhaust flange off of a rover 620, 220 with a slight crack in the exhaust housing.

I don’t think this is the same as the ‘tomcat’ turbo off of the 200, but someone might know better.? It’s available anyway and I’m tempted to buy it

Got the box on the engine and plonked it in last night. Front dropped down to a very acceptable height.
Put the car up on stands now to get the tank fitted, exhaust, shafts, can start looking at plumbing everything up.

I got the seats fitted in the other night, I need to drill a couple of holes but nothing major. Put the seats right up on the mounts and don’t need to use box section o don’t think which is good.
I do need a steering wheel boss still though,

There is a 209aei on eBay at present

It’s going well. You think you’ll get it on the road by summer?

I hope so, I’m chipping away at it, I’d like to do some track days with it next year.

I’ve been doing some bits with this over the last couple of weeks, I’ve not really taken any photos though, and we all know that makes for boring updates, so ill hold off the now and take some photos when I’m out

🤔

I bought a turbo/exhaust for a Saxo off Facebook marketplace, also bought a heap of other wee bits and have been getting on with brake lines on the front. 172 master and servo, all new lines, ready to run the two to the rear.
Engine bay mock up, turbo setup and boost run. Got the down pipe to mate with the GTT exhaust which looks like it should be nice and tidy.
I’ve also got the shifter tower, handbrake and seatbelt buckled back inside the car.
And new steering rack bushes fitted with mounts from Justin s via Facebook 👍🏼

I think I’m going to need to buy a welder, a proper one. The question is, just how balls out do I go exactly..? 🤔

General turborenault recommendation would put R-tech MIG180 on the serious options list @DaveL485 really rates also

Having spent far too long looking at options decided against fancy multi function welder from r-tech, jasic & kemppi. Figured just buy seperate TIG if needed

Ended up bk at decent MIG as primary need and in the end dropped paying the extra for a synergic.

Spent savings on fancy, mask, spares, load of steel and treat of a trolly lol

I may also be looking at welders and r-tech offer a finance option, add on a few bits and bobs and looking at ~£45 p/m for less than a year. The man maths makes it really hard to not click the buy it button!

the other option is this one

I’ve been told it works fine on a 13amp plug for DIY use. They state the 30amp as that’s what it would need in an industrial setting working balls out all day

Realised I’ve been at my new job a year and the payments on my tool box will have ended.
So I went to machine mart and ticked myself up for another year 🤩
Should see new welder before the end of the week. Merry christmas, and happy Sunday to me.

Exhaust is all that’s left to weld! Petty much!
Need to redo the radiator support/subframe.

HOPEFULLY,, have a somewhat successful go at TIG welding some boost pipes.

I’ll need to get gas, so in reality I’ll have to wait a bit to pay for bottles etc. I’ll price it at work anyway and see what options are

Some bits and pieces done, exhaust down pipe cut/fettled and welded up, need to do some hangers and I think I’m going to change the back box but the downpipe is done so that takes that bit of engine bay plumbing off the list.

I got the nubbin ground out of the compressor housing so the orientation of the whole turbo can be changed as required.
Mocked that up and cut the 90’ boost pipe to suit. That will get trimmed at the other end to meet up with the pipe under the headlight and a silicone 90’ (I ordered a heap of bits for finishing things off yesterday, some silicone bits were among that stuff)

I needed fuel pipes to go front to back, the original metal ones were rotted out. my mate has an abundance of mk3 golfs around him and his shed and these fuel pipes were ripe for the picking so I brought them home.
I also found the brake pipes I’d removed from the underside/ front to back also, they are in good condition and although I said I would replace them. I might not!

Actuator is going to need a bracket making up, nothing major but I will replace it with a different one I can rotate at some point.

She’s coming together!
Cheers,

I have a couple of things i need to get straight in my head as im getting further on with this,

one of which is the cooling circuit, what are the options for simple pipe set up? there are six outlet/inlet on the water pump, 3 and 3. one of each taken up by the radiator hoses.
Can i run a second pair to the header tank and the third to the heater matrix?

or

can i blank off the two smaller outlets, and just have the second pair going through both the matrix and expansion tank in series?

does it matter on the matrix which gets hot in? i presume not?

---

the standard GTT FPR, can someone confirm the pipe config. fuel pump in bottom port ** carb to large side port ** tank return to small side port ** and vacuum pressure in the top?

does anybody have any insight on fuel tank set up with the small line coming out of the top of the breather chamber on the filler neck, did it go to the charcoal canister? i cant remember but i think it did.

does anybody have any good ways of putting a bead on to, or any links to barb/olive/bead/clamp type solutions, for the ends of shortened formed plastic fuel pipes? please share all

---

wiring loom, i have one, an old one, its oily and dusty. hah does anybody have a basic diagram of whats there/should be there or indeed a more in depth one with pin out for main plug/s
i need to get my head around how the aei and cps etc are wired in and also what the different sensors are that i have are

as its a campus and was a 1.4 spi, can somebody tell me what needs done to the fuel pump wiring set up, do i have to set it up to constant pump?
modify relay wiring/ add a relay is what ive gathered. any help would be appreciated

---

when installing an AFR guage, is the bung location critical? there is a lambda right after the turbo housing on the 90' bend, will that be alright?

---

i had noticed before but have never found out, my sump has three drains into it, the turbo oil drain at the front. a smaller one to the rhs of that, whats that for? and the third it the opposite corner at the back., whats that been for?
all i can think of is a catchcan/breather drain? or oil temp actually, that might make sense for that wee one that the front.

thats about it just now, ive got some photos and that from the past couple nights work ill post up later, in the middle of arcing about with icloud to get photos on my computer.

I think one of the sump ports is oil level not temp? For the oil pressure/level guage on the dash
