No, he's not insured in any way shape or form. He can't use his own policy as the car is booked in with the main dealer so it comes under their insurance policy. I did ask that but that was the reply, to which I said well it's an oversight on your behalf when booking in the job that part of the service is for the car to be taken out on public roads. They apologised, re booked and came to an agreement on compensation for the inconvenience.

Clio Ricardo's Liquid Yellow 200 EDC

Apparently they all had mats fitted when they came out new, this being bought second hand and nearly 4 years old didn't have any. It did surprise me having nothing fitted when I bought it from a main dealer, you would think they'd just put a set in before it goes out knowing the forecourt but I guess at £72 a set they thought twice.
When I bought my Media Nav last year I had to tell them to fit mats and new windscreen wipers or I'd walk away from the deal. Mid conversation he had the cheek to say "Well we have the old ones in the garage we can put back in" Fuck off they're £32 put a new set in!!
Regards software it was actually installed and just needed to be taken out on the road for 2-3 miles to let the revised software calibrate and to make sure it was all working and not break down.

So back to Renault again this morning for the software update. Yes, much better, more refined. Now I don't feel the need to downshift with the paddles to choose the gear I want to be in. Smoother and more responsive on downshifts in Auto mode which suits me.
Having the software updated has null and voided everything I've said about the box beforehand. I Iove the car but felt the around town driving was to and fro, the gearbox never quite sure what gear it's needed to be in so it made for a slightly jerky drive around town. Not now, it has made a difference.
I always felt Auto mode was letting it down how it was. SPORT and RACE mode with or without paddles have always been good from day one, the updated software has worked for me and AUTO mode is now a good place to be and no real need to blip the paddle to override it.
So yes, a big improvement.... Not bad for £24

Result, had a text from a friend asking if I'd be interested in a space at Brands this Sunday for an open pit lane trackday..... Erm, yes! So the Clios first trackday, should be interesting to see how it fairs. Ambient temps suggest 5 degrees on the day so hopefully with it mapped and on the stock IC it should be ok.

Well, an amazing day, as expected the Clio performed faultless. SPORT mode all day, didn't use the paddles bar coming into Clearways in 4th where I had to blip down to 3rd. Other than it was brilliant, hit 105mph on the start/finish line but with the mist first thing the track was a bit greasy. TC would kick in heading to the finish line but I didn't really push hard, absolutely no point. After lunch the racing line was drying out so it gave me a chance to stretch its legs a bit more and it made the difference.
It's so on point, all I can say it what little I've done to the 200 EDC is what it should have been like when it rolled off the production line.
It needs the map, absolutely need it. It's transformed the drive especially with the transmission software update.
The Cooksport springs not only give you the look but also perform really well.
What it could benefit from is a next level upgrade of brake pads up front. I'd probably flush out and replace the brake fluid for Motul just because I know it's good and know it'll be new and done.

For what it cost plus the extras it's a cracking car to be in. It's effortless, I've heard it being described as slightly detached which I get as it's not a manual but for me the tech with Sport mode and the revised software makes the difference. I know you cant time the laps but I'd definitely be interested in how quick it is on a dry day at Brands, I'm curious to know how it would fair up against say a 250. Like put a few laps in on a clear track to see the lap times between the 2.
If only there was an event in August that we could do some unofficially timed laps around a circuit ...
Not really but with the conditions of the track in the morning it just wasn't worth finding the limit, I wouldn't push it that far. After the break when you could see the drying line there was a difference, more confident in driving which is when I noticed the brakes. That might have been me being out too long but like I said they were OK but felt maybe a step up in pad. It's punchy, with the true it certainly moves it.
