Clio oops I did it again... Adey's Clio 200 EDC

Driving along recently and I had a brake system fault warning ping up. Having had it before I assumed it just needed a fluid top up. I wasn't wrong but it looks like the cap has been leaking too. First I noticed a brackets paint peeling, then I looked further down and the same is happening to the red paint below!

Not sure if it's a heat related issue causing the fluid to push out but abit miffed now.... not sure how I should tackle fixing it.

Yikes, get on top of that, 21's were super common for peeling the paint off under the brake res and it rots away so fast once the paint is lifted!

Made a big dent on the "paint" issue today. Not that pretty but it'll do. Chassis also seems to be galvanised and I could only see 1 spot smaller than a 5p that had started to go, main damage was actually under the engine mount. When I next get the car up in the air ill do similar from the underside.

Anyway, day went like this. drove the car on my driveway ramps and supported the engine, whipped off the engine mount to be greeted with more damaged paint. Washed everything down to start with then hit it with a brillow pad and screwdriver to remove as much of the loose paint that I could. Washed it all down with soapy water to try and neutralize any remaining brake fluid. dried it all off with the trusty garage hair dryer than masked it off a little. Gave it a good few coats of Jenolite rust converting primer, just in case there was anything going on there that needed stopping. Hit it then with trusty satin black, mainly so it wasn't bright white. While the mount was out I gave that a little tart up also. I've had a powerflex insert kicking around for a while but it was a pain in the dick to fit in situe so that went on too.

Bit of a dick job and to put it back to factory fresh it would require an engine out. Hopefully this will protect it for a little longer. Makes you wonder how many people have the issue and don't realise, will possibly end up rotting out a fair few of them out in the future if it gets through the galvanized coating. Also, turns out the oem heat shield fits with the 3 inch downpipe, so that has also been refitted (y)

Made a start on what was meant to be a quick job. New rear discs and pads. Though when I got there initially I found I didn't have a big enough socket. For future its a 36mm (cheers @DaveL485)

Roll on the next day when I borrowed the correct socket, cracked on with no major issues bar the state of the rear callipers. All the paint had started to lift off so I ended up removing both, ripping the loose paint off and giving them a coating with some red calliper paint. Other than that all went well (y) opted for Brembo road pads all round and some C hooked discs all from Kam Racing (y)

I've still got the front pads to swap out, then bleed the brakes all round and after that ill do the oil and filter, but that can wait till one of the eves this week.

Ffs... if it's not one thing it's another.... so on the weekend it was noted that there was quite the exhaust rattle. Assumed it was the heat shields falling off in typical Renault fashion (they are)

Driving to work this morning it seemed a tad louder, just assumed it was in my head.

Driving home giving it some beans and it came on boost, to an almighty roar and turbo spool noise followed by lots of loud pops and bangs....

The stock rear section had just sheared off at the back box.

Pain in the dick to remove, had to drill 2 x diffuser bolts out then drop the back box off followed by wiggling the pipe out. If it was in one piece still you'd have to get the car high enough to hang the rear axle.

Anyway, GT Performance silenced cat back ordered that should match the 3 inch GT Performance decats.

Looks expensive..... Mind you everything looks expensive to me. I thought the original would have been stainless (the Dacia is) but with mild steel welds which rot through. Not a problem if you have a TIG and a bit of determination.
Bought some uprated injectors for the Landy today, wish it would warm up a bit... Got a list

The box itself looks stainless, but the welds don't. I might go borrow the tig at a mates and repair it, just in case the replacement is too "in your face".

It was cheaper to order the above exhaust from France than a UK brand/supplied one for sure. That and UK stuff seems to be a hit an miss, seen many Milteks crack and rust.

Get out there with a thermos flask for warmth :D

That reminded me of when our 172 Cup needed a back box ( wasn't very old, think short journeys fucked it ) and I went to the dealer parts bloke I knew who informed me yes, I could have a back box on its own, and that you sawed the OE pipe over the rear beam , new gen Renault box came with a joining clamp....I couldn't believe they'd actually designed it in one piece and more surprised they supplied a way round it .

Ouch, that looks like crap metal indeed. Replacement looks good! GTPerformance seems to be decent stuff.
It's rebranded stuff from alibaba, but so far not heard any complaints! Fitment and quality seems to be good.

For some reason the exhaust got held up for 3 days in France, but, it turned up today. Nearly a week and a half of driving the mk2 Fabia VRS. Think I put more miles on it in that time than I have in the 6 months.

Quality looks great out of the box though we will see how it looks after a few miles. General fitting didn't take long at all though the fineness of getting it lined up took a few attempts, also hampered by the fact you cant tell until you refit the undertray. There's a balance of getting both tips in the hole without touching either side. The clamps that come with it are a little wank, and after one tightening sesh they are done and galled up. Replacements have been ordered to refit at the weekend.

Other than that it sounds pretty sweet, quieter than I expected and near enough the same as it was with the stock back box. a little louder/deeper toned when poking the pedal but less raspy and "chav" than it did sound. I expect it'll change a little with a few miles on it.

Ill add my thoughts after the commute

that was my thoughts. Asking around it seems to be common that they weep. Making a heat shield wouldn't be too much bother. The 197 cap is meant to help too. Will probably look at doing both.
Yeah this happened on my megane, Really bad placement really. The 197 cap has helped though.

Also, liking the exhaust. Can’t wait to hear what it’s like
