So ive had the 5 now for just a little under 4 years ive had my ups downs and in betweens but gradually slowly cracked on with the motor so thought id throw some pics together of the progress slow as it is .... fingers crossed it might get finished this year

how i bought the car way back
IMG_0048.webp IMG_0261.webp the car itself didnt at all seem all to bad it came with 12 months mot god knows how but the plan was run it for a year tidy it up then do a full of the road restore once the mot had ran out. But it was running some silly t3 turbo setup and an adjustable boost valve and temptation got the better of me and well the engine let go in fantastic fashion metal smoke and oil everywhere. So the work began.

But by the time I got to this point i was sent away for the best part of 2 years working and living in germany so communication between freinds and family to get it booked in for welding and paint

DSCN0040.webp
then thats how it sat for quite some time.

so sat with a huge efi parts sticker slapped across the bonnet i only had two options remove the sticker or go EFiphoto-2.webp photo-4.webp photo-12.webp wire4.webp bought some goodies and rebuilt the engine with all the usual mods.
piper 285 cam and all the rest that goes with it got some head work done and also a 2 1/2 inch down pipe elbow and obviously a nice big turbo. oh and EFI.

IMG_2070.webp IMG_2071.webpmore bits had some cobra imola bucket seats so got them retrimmed and painted blue
so from there really havnt really got many progress pics othe than how it sits now engine is in and running but needs MOT and still what seems a mountain of work but im sure ill get there and keep this updated thanks.

so thats how it currently sits on the parents drive.

Thought I’d give a little update as I’m stuck what to do. So the car got running and motd got it to efi and it’s miss firing intermittent. Made 170bhp wich is naff to say the least.

So I ran a few test changed out everything electrical and removed the head and there was nothing obvious. Got it started and still ran on three at times so I just used it until the piston rings went .........

So in between the cars been up for sale used rebuilt then piston ring again. I never ran the engine on a carb to rule out the efi manifold and it’s never really ran right. So here’s the options.
1. Rebuild original engine again. For it to maybe mis fire again.
2. Rebuild a different c1j.
3. Low boost f4r
4. Sell and buy a boosted Clio

Option 4 is the most fun I have had in a car. Low boost 172 clio. Reliable, fun and can be cheap

So what’s the shopping list for this low boost f4r as I havnt got the money for high boost.
Engine a start
Belts etc
Turbo Manifold
I’ve got a t28 turbo I’ve got on the 5 now but I’m guessing it’s been altered ???
Oil feed
Engine mount

???

Engine mount and alternator mount from Daz Wosdale is about £70
Cast manifold off ebay can be had for about £90
Yeah whack your T28 on, might just need clocking
Engine Dynamics do a neat turbo oil return kit for about £80, they may even do the right length oil feed too
I can link you to a guy who does alternator tensioner or I have a link to buy a RS alt bracket from France - was about £50

You've got ECU haven't you ? If so a few easy amendments to loom.

Depends how far you want to go, can probably pick up a running engine for £200-£250.

Sounds good to me Cheers mate daz only lives on the next estate to me aswell 🙌🙌

Got the ecu yes adaptronic

So hopfully a half reliable decent powered 5 on the cards

Also ph1 172 engines have larger exhaust ports so may be worth tracking down one of those. Oh you'll need ph1 cable throttle body too ;-)

I sold all my spare bits mate, all I have left is a ph2 fuel rail which apparently can be adapted but if you haven’t already join the various Clio Facebook groups as always people on those with bits for sale.
