5 GT Turbo Another Red Renault 5 GT Turbo On It's Way Back To The Road

Nah you won't,you'll do it properly with man's paint and a gun.......
Mate, I’m trying to resist. I’ve never done it before and I’m in no way geared up for it. I really should just pay someone to do it. However, I know getting someone decent, at my sort of budget, is going to be quite difficult.
Honestly, the shit I’ve taken on over the years just because I can’t bring myself to farm it out. I’ll probably end up building my own pissing spray booth! 🤣

Nice work! Really neat.

Condensation is part and parcel unfortunately, I have the same issue. The floor was so bad the other day I has a big fan going to dry it out a bit. Only way to avoid is to heat the garage and keep it warmer in there but thats not realistic for me, it'd cost a bloody fortune.

Cheers Dave.
Yep, condensation is just one of those things you have to battle. I’ve got a tin roof that used to drip terribly in the right conditions. I’ve recently insulated it and it’s infinitely better. However, the moisture just condenses on the next coolest thing, generally the car and tools.
To be fair, there are worse problems to have. I’m grateful to have a space to work in. 👍🏻

Changes in temp cause me big issues in winter with condensation, if it's cold , then air temperature jumps , everything hefty ( bikes, engines, large paint tins) is piss wet , only thing that helps on bikes is cotton sheets covering them up, proper to the floor though.
I got a couple of cranks out looking for something else, I'd covered them in chain lube luckily otherwise they'd be gonners with the amount of condensation on them.
Lots of ventilation helps, like air bricks or having door open lots.

Top Job. I wonder if it is worth putting in a few small drain holes on the bottoms of the parts you have repaired, this would allow you to insert rustproofing upwards into the void areas until it runs out and also any water that gets in can get out again. It also helps air circulation in the void areas, which is important on something that spends its time in a garage..

Thanks Steve, I appreciate your input.
I have tried to replicate what I think are the original drain points, so hopefully this helps. I think you make a valid point regarding it spending its life in a garage though. You don’t get the regular airing that you would if it was driven. I’ll have a look if there are any potential areas for more drain/air holes. 👍🏻

A few shots of the drain points I mentioned @Steve Swan

There's this one in the inner sill.

Which corresponds with the indent in the outer sill - visible in the image below.

Then there's this one in the rear beam mount plate.

I will be sure to wax all the cavities once painted. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye out for areas I think could benefit from more drain/ventilation.

Thanks.

In other news, it's my birthday today and my good wife came through with a top tier gift!.....I did tell here where to get them from.... aaaand how I wanted them to look.....but that's beside the point. 🤣

Replica (ish) dealer plates 😎

I actually don't think the photo does them justice. I'm impressed. The font isn't perfect, but they're plenty close enough.....and minty fresh! I also decided to go for a thin border, after seeing one on their website, and I think I'm glad I did.

Just approximately 1-10 years now until I'll be ready to put them on 🤣

You really need to find and invest in someone to paint it. All this time and hard work and it could end up looking terrible. It'll be worth the investment and icing on the cake to all these many hours of hard work.

I'm fortunate enough to have sorted all mine myself as it's my profession. Just get everything as stripped and prepared as possible. Do not fill or prime or yourself.

Too true. Unfortunately, budget will dictate the direction and I highly doubt it’ll stretch to a decent respray. I’m not too worried at this stage though. I’m planning to finish the fab work, prep and paint the underside, build it back up, then decide on the paint.

I wouldn't worry about paint, car is tidy enough to run it , I'm no expert on paint, but I'm sure I can hold your hand and get it looking smart, you'll have next to zero filler/prep if you leave panels as they are, keep how far you need to go to a minimum, lower rear quarters are probably your only area, filler area might be a twat as it's up in middle of panel, red will never match.
I'd agree with Clarky above , don't start filling and priming if you're gonna farm paint out, they won't touch it, or just charge you more to rip it back, my mate always painted my cars, told me what he wanted and what to use, but buck stopped with me , no guarantees......but he's chucked it in , rent, energy bills made it not worth it.....so now I'm paintmanless.
Buggernuts....

Just got in from work and noticed a damp patch coming out from under the garage door!? Hhhmmm that’s strange. Open the garage door to see a dodgy looking black/red-ish liquid all over the place.

For anyone is in need of a laugh today, you’re welcome. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Turns out to be gearbox oil. Somehow the driveshaft boot has randomly split. I’ve got it somewhat strained over to one side but it’s been like that for weeks. The rubber must have just had enough and let go!

Garage now smells like a scrappy! 🤣
