[House build thread] Andy’s house ( not from scratch )

The interior of the house while never truly done is in good order.

Time to establish works on the exterior.

I had various quotes for amazing amounts of money to do landscaping on the side garden.

Being from Yorkshire I thought I am not paying that! How hard can I be?

The answer is quite.

Larch sleepers were supposed to be 100*200*2400.

They were a mix of 90*200 and 100*200 and anywhere from 2460 to 2880mm.

The ends were not square cut either so I had to hand finish every end of the timbers.

The garden isn’t level so I had to factor in that.

However, 4.5tonnes of topsoil later I have a raised bed in place with some pleather trees due for delivery in a weeks time.

I also have a wooden arch ( not pictured yet! ) that I’ll put up.

Hello all.

I am starting to turn my attention to the garage now the garden is almost done.

I am considering epoxy coloured sand paint for the flooring.

Anyone have any experience of it?

It looks perfect - self levels , adhesive , looks great.

Also will paint the walls and ceilings. That’s going to be a masking job and a half.

I used mega expensive 2-part epoxy floor paint with primer, cost me £450 for a 12m x 5m garage. If I do it again ill put down the rubber interlocking tiles next time. The floor paint will get damaged at some point expecially while you're spannering, scratches, chips from dropped tools, whatever. Ive spannered, welded, plasma cut, and angle ground over mine since 2017, give or take and now theres a couple of spots starting to lift that I have had to put duct tape over.

The rubber tiles are durable and replacable too, so if you mash one you can just pop it out and change it, can't do that with paint. Downside - they're expensive! Would be close to £2000 for my garage area.

The issue with any kind of paint is the adhesion to the surface below, this will inevitably fail at some point and become a source of annoyance,
If it were a brand new concrete floor, that's easier to manage, the older it is, the more difficult it becomes to make things stick. Also if there is no DPC and the concrete is on mother earth, damp stops adhesion too.
It's a second vote for tiles here, I was all tee'd up to do my lock up, before an old Jeep intervened and started to reduce my budget. I like the insulation idea of not lying on actual concrete too, something no coating can do.

Its on DPC and ~10 years old but in good nick.

I just think that this

looks better than

Ill take on board both of your points about longevity mind! Never thought about the insulation. My house is 100% UFH. Wonder if I can eek out one more room ...
