5 GT Turbo F4Rt - hopefully the correct decision

Been out testing today, nearly catastrophic as oil feed from block to turbo worked it’s way loose (or more than likely I didn’t do it up correctly) which meant a decent size oil leak following a WOT pull in 4th, had I not noticed the smell who knows what would of happened. All solved now though, only down to the low mark on dipstick and oil pressure was fine on log but still got very lucky as another decent run could of meant at least a broken turbo.

Generally speaking though all running well at around 8psi, very rich at WOT, like flats tens and then evening out to high 10s low 11s on boost. Feels pretty quick though even with literally no timing in map, I’d say around 230-240hp, feels maybe a tad slower than my C1J. It will be fun to see what it’s like when mapped properly with double the boost.

good save! could of been the whole engine gone not just the turbo! nice and safe for running in though (y) youll notice the difference when mapped for sure. Whens it booked in for again?

Definitely a good save, Stav spotted it straight away as had him helping me again today. Very hard to keep any eyes on everything flying solo.

April 9th mapping.

All I have left to do now is fix VVT solenoid wiring and see if I can add another breather port on breather plate. Then oil and filter before mapping.

Opinions on how quick rings should seal or indeed when a car is considered run in? The internet tells me anything from 20 miles to 1000 miles. What do you all think ?

hard and fast. with a a c1j i used to give it a warm up run round the block with some boost. then drop all the oil the next day and retorque the head. How many miles you up to so far?

Barely 50 I think mate, did a hot compression test today which has me a little concerned.

1 10 bar / 145 psi
2 10 bar / 145 psi
3 10 bar / 145 psi
4 9 bar / 130 psi

Wondering if it’s too early to tell if I should be worried.

Did you do a wet test aswell?

Only on 4, it did raise by 1bar. Thinking ring isn’t sealed/sealing or glazed bore ? I’m going to do a load more miles under some decent load and retest.

What’s your take on running in @James5 , I personally think it odd that 1,2,3 are bang on and 4 isn’t.

seems odd. what's the spec on allowed difference between cylinders? id also do a wet test on all 4

It’s usually 10-15% allowance isn’t ? Which number 4 is within but just odd that 1,2 & 3 are spot on and 4 isn’t. I’ve read that others with low comp Wossner pistons have readings of 145psi. I’m going to do a load more miles and retest and go from there.

New VVT solenoid as I thought mine was fucked, turns out the wiring was incorrect.

Need to track down yet more leaks from rear of block/sump. Oh the joys !!

Been out doing miles trying to bed these rings in better with the hope of raising/evening out compression.

i've done them similar to that with just about every engine i've built and ran in myself.

last few have been to efi and back twice, about half hour away and then good session mapping them and back out and kick the shit out of them!!!!
