Hello! New 5 GTT owner.

Thanks for the heads up on the rear beam mounts. Cars been delayed so looking at next Friday before it gets delivered.

Another week to worry on the shell condition. šŸ˜

Guys, just a heads up on DannyDo above.

He direct messaged me saying a member off of here (who doesnā€™t come on often) he knows has a grill for sale and passed on their email address. I contacted them and they sent me pictures of three grills which have been used by other scammers with a price too good to be true.

Just a warning for others so they donā€™t get caught out. Seems to more scammers than genuine people about these days.

Thank you so much. I have removed them.

Nice garage!
Thanks! Cant say it looks as tidy now.

Got the car emptied of all the parts and Iā€™m slowly working my way through.

The surprises are starting already.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed to be completely honest. šŸ˜

Shell looks to be in decent shape on the face of it, but the wiring is a mess.

It appears I have a half butchered dash loom, a matching dash loom that looks to be intact. A loom which might be for the Audi engine but not 100% (might be the headlights etc. only and a bunch of random cut connection ends.

I think Iā€™m missing pretty much all other looms, right the way to the rear lights which have nothing.

I donā€™t really know where to start getting replacements and fear this is going to cost a fortune to get hold of the missing parts.

The fact I didnā€™t take it apart is why itā€™s so daunting.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Break it down into phases or key sections and get firing pics and questions on here šŸ‘

Try to decide on main outcomes of the build to guide you and help not bounce between jobs and get demotivated quickly seeing no progress

Simplistically it is
1. Body, doors, bonnet bla bla bla and all rust free and fit
2. Electrics split by
a. Wiring
b. Engine, fan, fuel pump etc
3. Interior
4. Engine, gearbox etc

And once you are clear on what you have, condition of, missing you can work through and not give up before you start

All looms are getting on so might be a blessing in disguise to get your head around what goes where and test

Tweak above to suit, if you were not the other end of the country would pop in and say hello and share what little I know ..... and drink you beer stash lol

Thanks Duncan, Iā€™m pretty comfortable with the body and mechanical side of things. Iā€™m sure I will have questions however.

The wiring was always a worry, I think I just feel so out my depth because I know there is a lot missing but I donā€™t actually know what. Suppose itā€™s all a learning process and I need to take a step back and try enjoy it. Thatā€™s why I bought it in the first place.

If you fancy a trip to Scotland there is a room above the garage. It has a beer fridge!

Yeah, thatā€™s the main issue Iā€™m facing. The car has been partially stripped for an engine conversion prior to me getting it. Itā€™s all in none labeled boxes.

Hence my mild panic attack. šŸ˜

Thanks, Iā€™ve tried to phone him but no answer. Sent him a message so Iā€™m sure heā€™ll get back to me.
Getting a reply out of Mike can be a bit hit and miss , i have found the best way is to find some thing he has listed on Ebay and message him on there , good luck with your project

Thanks, fingers crossed I think I have sourced replacement looms. Everything single one is missing, and the one I have which looks reasonable is from a non turbo šŸ˜.

Knew there would be issues, just didnā€™t think so quickly and the one thing I was most worried about.

Nothing that can be done about it now, just need to forget about it and move on.

Ps. Might need some guidance on routing once I get them through. I will trawl through the many rebuilt posts and try and figure it out.

Don't get disheartened, or at least don't pay too much attention to that feeling. Nothing is insurmountable! They're basic cars and they made thousands of them, so spares are fairly common. If you're not going for concourse, it'll be easy and at reasonable cost. You'll shit it.

If you can't find what you're looking for within the projects, I'm happy to take photos/videos of mine for you, as I'm sure the other guys would too. šŸ‘
