5 GT Turbo F4Rt - hopefully the correct decision

Not much to update due to new job, weather and baby Mae but I did buy an 02M ERR gearbox to stash away for a rainy day. Will slowly start picking up the other components I’ll need over the coming months.

I have used that box a lot and good option, get atb diff fitted also

Jesus does have one fitted and seems to work well, that is a different box and the 5 speed box I used in the 5 conversion with taller fd and atb diff fitted

Having never rried one in person cant comment

Just do a dsg conversion if serious ;)

Sqs do a sequential shift kit for them, you still can't rush the shifts though with a synchro box.

Dog box is fine in traffic once you get used to them.

Define "get used to them" for me?

I am considering it for the exige. This is the single biggest thing that is putting me off.

main thing is you have to shift quick, if you don't the dogs don't mesh and you end up making a hell of a noise and getting a false neutral. you can shift up using the clutch but it's not really worth it. downshifts can be a bit jerky but a lot of that depends on the ratios etc.

hope that makes sense?

@tutuur - and @ the rest of TR Renault gurus.

After buying O2M ERR I want to start sourcing driveshafts next. The box is out of a Cupra R or whatever they are called.

Which shafts do I need ? Will any Mk4 VAG FWD shafts do ? What do I need to do to amend to fit R5 hubs. Some custom shiz?

Mark you need vw shafts and Clio sport shafts ideally. The Clio sport hubs have bigger splines in them as you’ll shear the 16v/5gtt outer cv spline.

Think i still have a set of gtt uprights with 172 bearings and hubs. For shafts buy any mk4 shaft from j&r on ebay. If you have the thicker hollow 172 shafts for the other side the solid vw shafts will slide in with a bit of machining.

Thank you mate.

Forgive the simple queries, can any old transmission company sort the shafts for me ?

I think thereis a difference in spline count but that’s from shaft to cv itself. So whatever 172 shafts you use if you ever have to replace a cv you have to get a matching one.

Well in the space of 30 mins I now also have both VAG shafts, the gear selector with gear linkages and ph1 172 front hubs. The wife is not going to be best please, I’ll have to hide this lot.

Just need some 172 RS shafts and then the adaptor plate from EFI. The clutch, diff and flywheel can be acquired once my JB3 box implodes.

just get a set made, speak to dave mac props, give them sizes you need the shafts making to and splines etc.

Used them for years on various conversion now and alway very happy with product. Sleeve, weld, join whatever prefered draft and hand over fof custom drawings and some s155 one piece shafts

@bloke @Duncan Grier

When specifying custom shafts what information would I need to provide them? Spell it out for me as I’m a bit special 😂

Measurement wise where do you measure to and from to ensure correct length etc ?

build suspension up without springs. put outer cv joints in and joint's on the box. you then need to measure from the innermost face of the spline on the cv joint to your pot joint on the box.

you need to get 6 measurements in all, first three with as much camber you can get, maximum sag, level and maximum compression and then the next three with minimum camber possible on your setup. slight overkill doing it that way but makes sure you don't run into any problems.

i've got a diagram from sadev about measuring, will see if i can find it for you.
