5 GT Turbo F4Rt - hopefully the correct decision

On my old vag 5 used AP 4 pots, ali belled grooved disc setup and fitted under Oz Ultraleggera's. I have some pics on the laptop and may even still have the drawings knocking about. Were epic and never fadded on track or compromised road use

Was easier to solve my wants under a 15 than the 13, AP Racing very local in Coventry and back in the day were far more door open to chat and help with my asks. Be lucky to get past reception now lol

Back on it today.

Screamer pipe now heat wrapped as it’s close enough to the turbo oil return to warrant it plus I’ve heat wrapped the oil return hose itself as an extra precaution.

Also mounted fuel swirl pot underneath car and ran fresh fuel hose. Just need to sort a bracket and mount main fuel pump which I need a slightly different barbed 8mm fitting for.

Also tested the Racelogic timing gear I bought for a cracking deal of only £70, they are over £300 new. Im pleased to say it works.

So almost there, just a few more little jobs until I can do some driving.

Nice and looking good any pics of how you got the fuel lines going around the rear beam? As don't forget it moves.

I dont like the idea of an external swirl tank. Are you going to offer it any protection?

Hadn’t planned to no, it sits quite high up so not sure it’s unsafe as such but I get what you are saying. I was considering the swirl pot in the car but didn’t want the extra noise from pump plus even more of a smell of fuel than the old GTTs already produce. Thinking about it logically though I came to the conclusion having the fuel pot outside the car in the event of an accident is better than directly behind me in the car.

Shiney :) echo Andy's point and would put a simple cage around for the little effort but saftey added ;)

As long as the tank is venting correctly and all sealed would not expect fuel vapour in the car, does the swirl effect still work correctly that way round?

Bargain on the performance box

Yes the swirl pot is designed to be mounted under the car like that so should work the same as other standard mounted ones. With the C1J I used to have to keep the tank above half a tank otherwise I’d suffer quite bad fuel surge resulting in running lean/misfires on boost. I’m hoping this will solve that.

Yes well chuffed with the Racelogic box, I’m going to permanently mount it on the dash.

Cant see any issues to be fair id bet its no lower than the original reserve tank, and fixed more secure.

Is that the top mounted swirl pot torques sell on ebay Mark ? I have one on my list of stuff to buy. Still unsure whether to use rubber hose or ptfe same as engine bay. The price of ptfe fittings and hose are a bit fecking steep

Yeah thats the one Jon, it’s decent quality tank to be fair and I think it’ll work well.

I thought about getting fancy fittings and hoses but then in reality it’s hidden away and I think the old school 8mm hose is easy to use and cheap to buy.

It'll permeate fuel vapour and stink the car out from the fuel lines, unless you use the full teflon gear and thats super huge £££ by comparison.

Use it if anything runs inside the car, or itll reek in there. If its all external braided rubber is less than half the price. I did my original swirl pot and fuel lines for £65 including the tank itself, fittings and hose, then only replacing the hose and fittings cos of the smell was £170 :o

Mine will all be external, i wont have any fuel related stuff in the cab..been there done that with a fuel cell years ago, Fuel smell was horrendous. I mainly used ptfe for under bonnet as best for high temp.
