5 GT Turbo F4Rt - hopefully the correct decision

Turns out these Gates belts are more difficult to get hold of than I first thought. I used some so called buycarparts UK site who claimed they had stock when in fact they aren’t in the UK at all (Germany) and don’t have stock meaning at least a 7 day wait.

As you can imagine I told them to get fucked and sourced one from my local Karparts place, the owner Mike is a legend and should of gone to him in the first place. Only down side is the same part number is double the price which leads me to believe the German company were selling me some dodgy fake made out of an inferior material. On the positive side of things I’ll have it by today.

Well car is back but as you would imagine a few teething issues, it wouldn’t be a Renault otherwise would it.

The good news is there is now no oil leak, car starts with just under 5bar oil pressure and warm just under 1.5bar so that’s all good.

First start video below, adjusted throttle screw ever so slightly to get it running and idling around 1000rpm, when warm took 25% fuel out of master trim to get it to idle around 14 AFR.

Plenty of condensation from exhaust and manifold wrap smoking like a trooper.

During first and second video you can hear the good old Helix paddle rattling like fuck. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Helix clutch that doesn’t sound as noisy as fuck, it makes the engine sound like it’s shite. Next clutch I buy won’t be from them.

This second vid shows where all the smoke/condensation has cleared but number one injector decided to vibrate itself loose of rail, think it’s me not making sure they are fitted snuggly enough. Anyway car started spluttering but a simple one to fix I guess.

Third video, if you listen closely you can hear where I’m depressing the clutch and the shitty rattle goes away, probably something I’m going to have to live with for the time being.

Final issue is the car doesn’t turn off when turning ignition off, it keeps running and I need to pull battery negative. Some electrical gremlin that needs sorting. I’m told likely alternator issues.

I would love that to be fair but aren't they like thousands and thousands plus needing maitenance ? Or have I made that up?
Just started looking at this for the Exige.

They can be lots of cash , others not so much. AFAIK there isnt a kit for a Renault box other than the Sadeev that fits. The Sadeev is hamstrung though by the amount of torque it can handle and also the frequent rebuilds

You could go O2M and get a conversion plate / flywheel etc.

It would make it a pain in stop start traffic as the dog gears on them. It designed for flat shift clutchless changes.

But.

Sequential.
