Big Steve’s F**ked it!

Back home now from London after multiple tests and a meeting with the consultant….. it’s been a rather sh1t day to be honest …. :help.gif:

Talked me thru the MRI scan results he’d got, and showed me how one of the discs on my neck had become bulged and pushed the central nervous “pipe” in my spine off centre, together with the bits where you could see the nerves pulled out, and where some of the fluid had leaked out.

Reiterated that I’ve been thru MAJOR trauma and should not take it lightly.

Surprised at how fast my bicep and tricep has withered away in 11 weeks.

Said that I need surgery to try and give me shoulder movement but he needs to sit down and think what to do.

Says he believes he could fuse the nerve of my shoulder to my back somehow and then the nerve of my bicep to my chest?? Suggests if I’m lucky I could lift my arm to give a salute🫡 (salute yourself and see where your arm gets to).

I need to come to terms that my arm is not going to be the same as it was and it’s going to be a support act to my left arm which is now the main event. Reckons it would be 6 months after surgery before I started to see results. (Nerves will need to grow & fuse)

Surgery could be in about 6 weeks but advised he doesn’t want me to have the surgery before Christmas and then run the risk of complications over Christmas… (you know there’s always emergencies in hospitals over Xmas) …. So better to wait until new year.

I need to expect to have my arm in a sling for at least another year…. 😳🫣

Didn’t ask when or what id be able to drive… just know its going to be a while…

Sorry to hear this. I suppose it's better to concentrate on the positives and try to push the more negative bits to the back of your mind. This is all very easy for a non affected person to say, but all the people I have known, who have overcome adversity, had a mindset that would not be compromised and it must be a part of the reason they succeeded. I'll wish you compliments of the season and hope for a better new year for all of us.

The main thing is Steve, he hasn’t said you won’t have any movement, some movement is better than none.

Slow recovery period for you mate, hopefully you will come out fitter and strong 👍

When your ready to try driving, let me know, will happily come up with an automatic with dual controls and when your ready we can do manual aswell 👍

Shit results but not the end. Yeah things have changed bud but you will adapt and overcome this, give it time. Positive mindset is the key but I know how hard that can be. It's about doing the best you can with the cards you are dealt. Plenty of people around you to support and help going forwards, and yeah a salute might not be ideal, but better than fuck all.

Look at it this way - you're still with us and able to enjoy life, even if its in a slightly different way. Yes, the outcome could have been better, but it could have been so much worse. I refer to the events concerning our greatly missed welsh friend - the lights can go out just like that. It all really brings home how fragile we are, little pink squishy meatsacks.

Call me if you need to talk to someone that will definitely give you terrible advice and be irritatingly positive all the time.

Yeah I’m ready to see the Back of 2023, it’s fair to say it’s been a right sh1tbag to us…

As you say I’m still here, and still have a great team on my side.

We will overcome…!

How you getting on @Big Steve - Raider ? Probably good they haven’t had you in before Christmas, the doctors are on strike again. Have they given you a date yet?

Shame you’re not a bit closer, we could help each other in the short term, all we need is one of these

You could strap me to your chest, I’ll do the right and you do the left hand 🤣

Currently sat waiting for plastics to reattach some bits I may have sliced through 🙄

Not wanting to hijack Steve’s thread, it’s nothing in comparison to his injuries, mine were self inflicted. Hopefully I’ll get movement back just not all feeling which I can live with.

I originally though we’d be like a robot thing from avatar but the hanger way is funnier 🤣
