Big Steve’s F**ked it!

Thanks for the update Steve, I’ve been struggling to find the time and motivation to post lately. I figured it was a year round from your surgery and wondered how you were doing.

I’ve had days were I’ve wanted to have my fingers cut off as they just get in the way/painful/don’t work properly, that’s not even the ones I took a saw to! I get by with what I’ve got though but couldn’t imagine having to deal with a whole arm and the mental drain of what ifs.

Did you ever find out what actually happened in the accident? Have the police sorted things yet ?

Thanks for your post @Norwich Nick 👍

You make a very good point there mate, there’s lots of us struggling with our own Demons/challenges at this time and that does somehow help me realise that I’m not alone.

The truth is the police have just closed the case and said that I biked into the road and into the way of the car. So I don’t see myself getting fuck all with regards compensation etc.

I have quite literally paid an arm for a bike ride!

Sorry to hear you’re still struggling with your hand after saw-gate 😢

I’m glad you took my post the way it was intended. Just gotta figure out what’s best for you at the time, then have a day to think about, what can seem right one day won’t the next unfortunately.

There’s a guy on garage journal who lost an arm in an accident, he’s living his best life. I’ll add the link, it’s a long read but it might help you to read another car guy’s experience. Or it might not and you can call me all the names under the sun as a way to redirect some feelings.

Sorry to hear that, Fuck the po-po! After my motorbike accident they interrogated me just after I’d come around being knocked out to reset my dislocation and breaks, basically blaming me, I had no idea what was going on. Luckily I had four witnesses who all said I wasn’t at fault and actually got an apology, they just wanted an open and shut case.

It’s hard to believe you’d be silly enough to put yourself into a situation like that, that’s got to be a massive mental battle to fight as well. Mistakes happen and it is what it is sometimes, just gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other.

(I jest, the police are an invaluable service which are understaffed, under paid and under appreciated. They’re humans at the end of the day doing the best they can dealing with situations we couldn’t dream of)

Sorry to read you are still no further on the road to recovery.

I can’t even begin to think what it must be like on a daily basis for you.

All I can say is I wish you the best for the future & hope that eventually you get some use back.

Have you looked into how long other peoples rehabilitation's took? I know, no 2 people or injuries are the same, but, for example, if someone else took 2 years to get some results, there's hope for you yet. I hope for a positive outcome for you. It must be very frustrating for an up and at Em Guy like yourself. Are you managing to adapt ?

Given the way technology is now its feasible in our lifetimes that there will be a way to restore that connection Steve, worth considering before you take extreme action. Think Neuralink type stuff.

Hard to advise on anything else really, as its hard to envisage what its like living your situation.

Difficult situation to comment on. Its shit that its not come back yet but also there may still be time for it happen.

Doing what you will feel best to give you a better quality of life is what it comes down too. Are there options of some sort of moveable/usable prosthetic with removal?

after writing that, this came to mind... 🤣

arm for your health GIF

  • 15 months now since the accident
  • 12 months now since the surgery
  • Still no movement in my arm 😤😢😭

  • Had a recent meeting with my new consultant and they did another nerve conduction study
  • ZERO response from my bicep 💪
  • Suspected flicker in my shoulder, but I don’t feel anything different
  • The more that time passes, the more I just see my right arm as a buggerance now and seriously tempted to just get it cut off.
  • Surgeon will cut it off but wants to see me again in March 25.

  • Renault passion at an all time low.
  • Still wondering to thin the Herd.
ah steve thats really shit, ill drop ya a voice note tomorrow

Whilst you are alive and kicking mate and blood flows round your body there is always a chance things can be done.

As Dave says there is new technology and advances being found all the time, does it help you right now today, no it doesn't, but it offers hope for the future.

Never give up mate, keep fighting and doing what you can, a lad I grew up with was born with one arm, different in that he was born that way but he can drive, fix cars and do most of the stuff same as other people, it's tougher for you as you had two working arms and now have one at present, but one arm can still do plenty and with your skills I'm sure you can do plenty with cars as well.

2025 is just around the corner, chin up and fucking smash it mate :)

Just look at the advances we have made in our lifetimes alone.

I have a device in my pocket now that was literally beyond science fiction to boyhood me.

Neuralink is currently before Gen 1 of this.

Imagine what itll be in 35 years, within our lifetimes. Even with normal "Human" development, without AI assistance.

If someone hits the jackpot with AI (AGI/ASI) and it doesnt decide to wipe us out, skynet style, fixing a dead arm will be no more than an afterthought.

I dont wish to hijack Steves thread, but its not worth starting my own really - just to say I am appreciating the difficulty of having one of my arms at reduced capacity due to losing a fight with a log splitter. Somehow when I had 2 logs on it, I got my left middle digit caught between the 2 logs.

Graphic content in spoiler box YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

'tis but a scratch :)

Apparently my nail should grow back, I have most of the finger length - maybe lost 5mm and once healed I should have full range of movement, it'll just look like the end was dangled in a shredder. Very lucky, after a careless moment of lapsed attention.
