Asbestos

Hi
Would anyone have any technical documentation or statement from Renault to confirm the Clio V6 does not contain asbestos? I heard Renault progressively phased asbestos out even before the nationwide ban in France and subsequently the EU union. Would anyone have anything to support that?
This would be useful in importing purposes when border control at destination needs assurances to avoid them from tearing samples out for testing.
Thanks!!

Maybe speak to your local dealer? Failing that and to put you in the good books with customs, maybe a cover letter from you brake supplier (if you have one). Only places I can think any would possibly exist is in the brake pads and clutch friction plate if anywhere.

If you're importing to Australia you really will need a letter or some official documents from Renault to state that no asbestos was used in building the car. They are bad enough with private import of cars that have type approval in Australia, but would go to town on a Vee ripping off any heat-proof stuff around the engine bay and exhaust system. You have to make sure that the carpets are perfectly clean as well or they will rip those out! I know from bitter experience!!

Thanks for all the ideas. I have contacted Renault but during Covid-19 business is suspended and even after that is lifted I am not sure if they will be in a position to provide anything useful. I hope I am wrong though.

I imagine a number of us have imported before, such as MarkK so I was hoping someone had on hand some documentation for a faster solution. When will Covid-19 ease and if Renault will get back to me.

The fact is, if you believe Renault is legitmate, France's Decree, intergovernmental agreements in EU and WTO, there is no asbestos used, it is banned and there are safe alternatives. I would say it is virtually impossible to find asbestos here. If you needed asbestos it would be bespoke.

I have a feeling that border control do not take these into consideration. Hopefully we can find engineers report or declaration from Renault and share it for anyone who may need it in the future.

I would imagine theres still plenty of asbestos in witernoon

Having just imported a V6 into Australia I'm pretty up to speed with the requirements and just getting a letter from Renault and hoping that will get you through customs is a complete waste of time and money.

The only thing to do is to have the car independently inspected by an authorised asbestos inspected who is registered with the Australian asbestos authorities

The good news is that there is no asbestos on European vehicles since 1999 apart from a few Ferraris and Alphas apparently. But that information is not enough, your particular vehicle has to be independently cleared of having any asbestos. Don't try to wing it at the border as the consequences for getting it wrong are massive.

Thanks for the help! Really appreciate your time in letting me know about your recent experience in importing.

Renaultcover themselves but you might just want to check anything fitted or changed post dealer, particularly any after market brake pads, reputable ones will be okay but there are rafts of Chinese and Pakistani etc copies that are out there which are asbestos containing :approve:
