Clio Big Steve’s Clio Williams 2 (World Cup Williams) 🌍

Whilst the Clio’s away at the Welders, my idle hands sit here scrolling thru the usual socials etc, and on Friday night I spotted a little advert for something I’d been toying with the idea of buying, for a saving of +£300 lower than list price…

With swift fingers I engaged with the guy, and sent a deposit to hold it, and collected it today:

Yep, it’s a brand new Quaife helical locking differential, just like I’ve got on my Clio 182, and following how well that drives with one, I’m looking forwards to seeing some Quaife magic sprinkled on the Clio Williams when it’s all back together!!!

Just the point of getting the crown wheel machined now to accept it… any recommendations team TR??

They're pressed on. I think Quaife will swap them over FOC if you send them your original diff.

Thanks for the lead @S24NRC !! I contacted Quaife today and got this response:

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for your enquiry.
The machining and fitting of the crown wheel to your ATB Differential is something that we can do, there would be a charge of £45 plus vat and carriage for this service.
Currently there is a lead time of approximately 2 weeks from receipt of your unit.
If you have any questions or if I can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

So that’s sorted out where I’m going to get the Crown wheel fitted!!! 👍👍👍

Would this be a good time to tell the story about the out of box failure I had with a new Quaife Diff??? It got fixed, but they have gone down a bit in my estimation. You pays your money and takes your choice. I would get it done through them, as it puts you on slightly higher ground in the event of an issue.

Ever driven a front wheel drive car with a tight plate Diff??? Membership of the League of Dangerous sports club will follow. Actually it's fine until you lift, if the Mini I drove was anything to go by. Keep it planted and hold on with both shoulders.

Love a good tight plate diff. Turn with the throttle! My trophy gripper diff is set up quite agressive. Does not like tight turns off the drive

Quaife lsd for jb/jc gearbox is not bad. Ive stuck 250hp through mine for years and it seems to take it. Its not a good as a plated as lose drive on 2 wheels but maintenance free which is good

The car was inspected by the Welder this week:

Who made the following comments:

Had this nice little classic on the lift this afternoon Williams 2 in for a inspection.

Will be back next year all been well for the work to be carried out as it needs a fair amount

Unfortunately as he says, I’ve made the decision to not get the welding done at the moment as I’d rather not spend the money with my current health situation, and I can’t physically get anything done to the car on its return, so have decided to just PAUSE the project for the meantime.

Just working on getting the car transported back to me now.

Was it better/worse than you expected? It doesn't look too bad, but is always 3 times worse than you think it is..........
Otherwise how are you ?? No change or slight improvement ? Less sore I hope..

It’s about what I’d expected it would be to be honest. Welder spotted a few bits he was concerned with, but following @Duncan Grier ’s rebuild thread, I knew there was some strong metal under the bits he was poking, so wasn’t too concerned.
I had the extra money he quoted for the work, but as I said, I’d rather not spend it at the moment.

Thanks for asking Steve, everyone who see’s me comments how well I look, so I seem to be moving forwards. I’ve now got some more finger wiggle on all my fingers, and even my thumb looks like it’s joining the party late. My arm is still a mega floppy waste of flesh tho 😢

Just went out to the garage to pump some tyres up using my large compressor, and a tyre inflation gun. The trouble I had trying to plug the gun into the compressor line with one hand was ridiculous!! :ireful2.gif::ireful2.gif::ireful2.gif:
