21 Turbo Amrits Red Rocket

Turbo housings arrived. Jesus wept these are expensive. I picked up a rebuilt GT2860RS sans turbine housings for next to nothing and let Amrit have it cos its too small for me anyway and thats great, but the common turbine housings are all T25 flanged. The T3 flanged internal gate kit ONLY comes from ATP in the USA. Thats some $430 plus shipping of $135 plus import duty plus VAT. Ow.
I managed to find the units in the UK with a bit of legwork at AET, and they cost just as much. Absolutely ridiculous. I even looked at a T3 to T25 conversion adapter because the T25 housing was £100 cheaper but with the cost of the adapter on top, and reduction in size it wasn't worth the compromise.

Don't get me wrong, it's still half the price of a new unit with housings, but still worth a rant lol

I did a few more bits in the engine bay and then decided it was time to power up the ECU and do a systems test (ign power but no crank/start).

The last owner had done a horrific job of the earth lead to the battery so I had to sort that out just to get power to the car - thats all going to have to be renewed too. Once it had ignition power I hooked up the laptop and did a few checks. Pleased to report that we have successful tests on Injectors, Idle Control, Wastegate/MAC valve, Fuel pump, MAP, TPS and TPS but the WARI isnt showing me MAT or WAT for some reason. I also couldnt get the coil to pulse a spark test and every time I hit the pulse button the WARI gauges froze and I had to reboot everything. Ran out of light before I could investigate though, so next chance I get I need to sort those three things out.

So we now have a spark on both sides of the coil, it just worked when I powered it up this time I didn't change anything. Ain't going to complain :)
I also resolved the MAT and WAT - that was me being a spastic with wiring but a simple fix.

I need to refill the oil, get a manifold gasket and bolt up the turbo properly, fix the leaking fuel pump (which I think is why the old lump went bang) and prime everything and I should be able to crank it over and try and start it. Parts shopping again this week!

Been teasing poor Amrit this week too :-)

Put the new pump and filter on the pump is weeping from the body which is very strange need to revisit.
New fittings to get it in there too.

And got something done for the turbo oil return

The size conversion hose was about 1" short of doing it without extension so i had to slot some stainless tube in the middle to extend it.

And...cranked it over with a slightly tweaked base map from my own 21.

ITS ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE :D

So I got the clutch sorted thats all bled up and working now. Then I got the cooling system back in so I could run the engine for more than a few seconds and get some idle settings done and maybe even move it under its own steam. However. The car had different ideas.
Ive changed nothing config or hardware wise, and now it wont start. Light was fading, the battery went flat and it was freezing so I just sacked it off in a mood last night. Its not even close to firing properly, like someone changed all the trigger settings. I get the odd splutter, as if its teasing me, but nothing that even resembles the running car of last time. I even went back on my phone to the video I took for Amrit to make sure I hadnt been dreaming...yep, it had fired up easily, blipped the throttle, all good if a trifle lumpy.

It needs a new battery anyway, so i'll pick one up this week and revisit it but going from a running car to a dead fish for no apparent reason is wholly frustrating!
