Twingo Adey's Twingo GT (F4R+T 2.0ltr engine swap)

Is this box similar to 5,9&11 turbo?? if so then the F4R series could be mated to much older transaxles. Think this could be the case as have just seen pics of F4R fitted to R12. keep an eye out for a set of Wheelie bars to fit on the back of the dope and a ballistic parachute.
I think its bigger than the 5 box to be honest. I've seen the f4r in a 12 though I think it has to be a specific diesel box that its fitted to isnt it?. I will when I get some extra time look at the D series engine I took out of the Twingo, shares the same size clutch and flywheel as a 5 gt turbo so I expect with Renault being Renault it should bolt to a 330. Id need some deep pockets to get one of them fancy gearbox's that would take 150 bhp with 150 ftlb of torque though :D

Dunno. Think someone of your dubious talents with a bit of tuition could DIY. Then you could replace me and I could go to the home for the terminally bewildered.
Maybe the F4R series shares its bolt pattern with the bigger alloy block series engines 807,843,844. Never really thought of that.

Gearbox has arrived and looks to be a JR5119 box which gives the following speeds at the top of each gear.

Similar ratios to the DCi box I've got ready to fit into the Meg.
Think you'll be lucky to see a 6.5k shift though! Mines flat at about 5.8k. Haha
They do have a lot of low down to mid range go in them. 3rd gear power on's are great! :D

Once mapped, I'm sure it'll all change.

Even though the oil left in there was quite black I cant find anything metallic in there so fingers crossed its a good un 👍

Just looking at that picture of the engine with box removed has reminded me of something.
Word of advice for you when fitting.

Put the loom for the starter motor on before you lift the engine in! :P
It's an utter, utter swine to do once engine is in. One of the worst jobs on this arrangement on Renaults. My Trafic is the same with the starter at the back. You need arms like Mr Tickle and a lot of patience.

Good shout, I have to re loom that part of it too as my GT has the starter at the front and the meg at the rear, I will make sure its all on before the final fit (y)

Have you got a plan for a front pipe also?
I assume it's going to be the same scenario as mine and Neals, with minimal room passing the MC.

Also, regarding the power. The Megane is insanely fun, and that's lugging about a chunk more car than the twingo. 205hp will be insanely good in that little thing!

Im in hope that a cheap decat pipe will pass everything. Mine had a similar setup to the meg from factory, downpipe from the top mounted turbo followed the same route. Also has a remote reservoir from factory. Plenty of heat shielding too. Ill keep my fingers crossed for now but the exhaust will be one of the final things on my list of to-do's. Worst case ill chop one up and make it fit.

Meglio was SUPER tight and I had to add in some shielding so you should have a hoot.

Fit the downpipe before you put the engine in (as well as the loom). Wrap the downpipe, and use 197 manifold nuts on the downpipe>turbo flange. Theyre shakeproof, and M8 thread with a 10mm hex meaning they're a LOT easier to get on and off than the OE 13mm hex heads. Makes a huge difference.

Good shout Dave, these boosted F4R units love to remove downpipe nuts if there is a decat fitted. Odd.

Think ktec do some drilled nuts so you can wire lock if you don't have the OE K nuts.

Right, some ups and downs today.

Made a start on the throttle body adapter, I need to do this to retain the GT TB but mate it up too the 225 inlet manifold. Marked it all out on some aluminium and it looks good though I've ran out of countersink screws so have stopped playing until they arrive.

Old Flywheel and clutch also arrived, now this was a gamble and I wasn't sure if it would work, it was purchased as it matches the gearbox and the hydro clutch. Unfortunately, even though it sits nicely on the crank the holes do not line up. So next setup will be a 172 flywheel, modded to accept an rs133 hydro clutch cover (if actually needed) with an uprated friction disk, probably a paddle or dual material type.

Anyway with everything here I needed just to line parts up I was still able to modify the block to accept the 5 speed box and its now ready for a test fit in the engine bay. All being well there I can strip it all back down, clean everything and generally try and make a decent job of it. fingers crossed it fits 😬

WOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo

Well its a tight fit to get in, its pretty much the same size bay as a Clio 2 but the access is shite, the engine sits under the window and the front is taller and narrower meaning you have no space to swing things around.

That said, it sits on the standard 172 upper mount, standard twingo GT gearbox mount and the cables seem to work fine for shifting gears. The driveshafts look good and the correct length though I cant really confirm that till finial fitting. There's space around everything for movement and the only thing it looks like I need to make is a dogbone mount as its a few inches out of line. Win in my book (y)

Will be slowing down now as the next stages require me to start spending some more money :D

Result! The 172 flywheel fits the crank and the 133 cover fits the 172 flywheel ??? yeah.
If you went to a small alternator and lost the mahoosive ally casting??? (A/C &PAS I assume) it would free up lots of space

not sure on that rs133 cover fitting the 172 flywheel yet, trying to get a used one to check with (y)

yeah i could gain loads of space at the front there to be fair (y) the casting did used to hold the ac and pas but i lobbed off anything i wasnt using with an angle grinder

downpipe is going to be very tight too as you guy said. Not sure ill get a 3inch in there, will probably have to be a custom 2.5inch hmmmmm
