5 GT Turbo Abandoned in 2003, going for a big save/restoration

Managed to get out and about a bit the last few week's. I definitely need to get a carcoon to preserve all the new parts and paint as I am obsessive with keeping as good as the day I finished it!

Need to do a couple of touch ups already and possibly another detail. Again, need to buy a bonnet matt and try and walk away from it for a while. As I'll never get on with my phase 1! It's bad enough keeping one car perfect and to my standard's.

I honestly don't know how you do it @Big Steve - Raider

I had a full rebuild on my gearbox before refitting it, just for the sake of it. It never leaked, but it does now! It drips ever so slightly from the selector. Which is highly annoying as everything is coolant and oil tight. The gearbox companies reply was try and hit the bush in more (which didn't cure it), or take it out and send the box back to them... No chance.

Bit peeved off to be honest, but I'm not taking it out again in a hurry. BUT, Renault have a solution 😂

You know you have a French car when they make a dedicated drip tray! Thankfully the leak is next to nothing, I'll just be sure to check my levels and try and hit that Selector bush in better every chance I get.

Seriously annoying, but it's less than a minor leak and all the effort I've gone to keep the car perfect!

1st. stupid question, You haven't overfilled it have you?? It will be a garter type oilseal and depending on how the selector mech is fitted, it may be possible to change in situ. Is there a single or pair of selector shafts exiting the box ? Are both or just one weeping ? If you can get a pic it would save a lot of words.

As above they leak for fun , had a seal
Made years ago with a extra lip on it when changing a lot of diff bearings on 9/11 extra vans ( showing my age now )
Worked well for while but still let go eventually, put a square of absorbing material in the drip tray change as and when

I filled the box to it's fill plug level. I didn't think it was possible to overfill?

It's my fault. I thought it was a turret on top. Scratch that. Bummer, that would need the box to be stripped to replace that seal. It must have got a tiny bit of damage or a nick when it was fitted, easy to do.
I think Stu is right if you get a bit of that absorbent mat that only soaks up oil/hydrocarbon and put it in your tray it will control the spillage.
