So no garage time as of late with focus on tackling some long outstanding house/diy jobs along with picking up a lurgy slowed me down but managed to get some time in tonight

Decided to cut and insert 50mm and while not perfect as this is only the test frame so more than fine for draft fitment and measurements spot on. Do tue other side next session 😉

Few hours squeezed in, stripped everything back down, checked measurments etc and remounted N/S rear one I had done to get mirror angle I welded brace bars on for the O/S. On with mounting N/S setup and triple checking everything fixed and welded brace bars and final check of measurments before removing

You can see the funky angles so def worth getting right

Next time in should be able to finish top pickup and weld together the frame......looking forward to that step as soon much time used to get this bit done 👍

Ok starting to resemble something that might bolt to the car 😄

Need to cut a bit more out of the boot so it can lift straight into the shell (with engine mounted later on) but short of final measure, remove and refit wishbones to check nothing binding/moved and can weld in fully......25mm box there just to keep true atm as 40mm fouls wishbone tabs. Will get some triangulation in but only mock up so not going crazy. As it sits measurements good so very happy 😊

Usual photo bomb time

Nice early start at 6.30 for 6 hour round trip yesterday and finally picked my new seats up, taking a slightly different route back was rude to not pop in and see @Chris74# while so close, drink his coffee and have a good nose at his lovely 5 for inspiration.

Looks as epic and super OCD finish as it does in his thread......what I have completely forgotten is just how small they are on their own wheels having got so used to seeing mine on the rottiserie and dolly

All of a sudden the 5 pot engine and DSG gearbox seem MASSIVE 😆 what fool would put that in the back of a 5 🫡

Made some progress finding potential off shelf kit to convert the DQ500 box to 2wd without having to design/make something myself.

Speaking with Epytec who make a kit for the earlier 02m flavour now do one for the Tiguan but no confirmed kit for my box 😞 after some dialogue and sharing some pics and measurements might actually work 🤞 as a bonus said I could test fit and send back for a full refund if no good.....👍if fits expands their range of fitment for them

Only downside is the oem short driveshaft flange are discontinued and tough to find 2nd good condition ones. New are fetching over £350 so more reaseach needed to identify suitable doner as they were less than £100 from vag before and cant bring myself to pay the mark up

Anyway few pics

Think they use the 2wd DSG DQ250 with uprated clutch pack @andybond

DQ381 is more similar to the DG500 and better than the DQ250 but still not able to handle the power/torque of the DQ500 so starting there even though I have added the issue to convert to 2wd

So family all ill over Bank Holiday weekend and while still not feeling great 'forced' a couple of hours in garage just 🤷🏻‍♂️. Was starting to get the shakes 🙃

Had to cut out some more of the 5 to fit the spaceframe. Lots of postioning, measuring of wheel, engine etc. Have been able to bring the engine/box forward another good 25mm while this does not sound much helps with my quest of weight distrubution. 😀

Few 📸
