I was shocked to see we cracked another casing !!!!
We make 240ft/lb now which I think is beyond the JB3.
It could possibly be the machining of the casing fitting the plate made it weaker.
Not sure…. We broke a JB3 two years ago with no strengthening plate but was at 220ft/lb, mid season.
This gearbox was a fresh build at the start of last year, probably done the best part of three hours at full chat until it gave up.
We are on a JC5 now, see how that fares this season.
Out of interest are you running any sort of traction control? wheel spins and loss of traction will cause shock loading that can break things. Just a thought?

The only way to cure this would be to get rid of the single shear bearing arrangement. You would have to devise a way of mounting another pair of bearings on the end case, to prevent the gears trying to climb out of mesh.
