5 GT Turbo Tungy grey o.e gtt

Some maintenance has been required as of recently - old car syndrome. The suspension was pretty shot, so fitted new oem renault shocks all round last year. The bushes were totally shot up front as was the subframe (no oil leaks so rotted through) only bit of major rust on the car. I sourced a good condition subframe, burnt out the bushes and got the lot powdercoated in preperation to swap it.

Fire is the answer

Had problems sourcing oem bushes so got some tca's from gsf which were the wrong length..went back and eventually sourced some off ebay. Wound them in with a vice

Started the swap last weekend - had to change gearbox as diff bearings were noisy (big thanks to @Adeyspec for the gearbox) turned out easy as every bolt came out no problem. New engine mounts fitted and soft clutch conversion and new release bearing as it was shot.

chassis rails up front needed a lick of paint due to surface rust, give it a good clean up and applied lots of por 15, gave the hubs and rack a lick too

Old subframe totally fecked when hit with the hammer, suprising what underseal hides

Seems nice and tight @Adeyspec had it runing on axle stands yesterday no bother. Im going to do the underside soon. A couple of bits need a little bit of tlc but nowt major thanks to heavy underseal from the previous owner.

All back together now. Had the tracking set - i guesstimated it to get it to the garage and passenger side was .5deg out and drivers side 1degree out:D drives absoultely awesome. Steering feels tight and positive - best its ever driven. No more road noise with new bushes up front, this has highlighted a slighty noisy wheelbearing on the passenger side rear. Annoyingly they have been replaced 15k ago but its a cheap and easy job so another to do before france.
On the lift today

The scorpion exhausts have multipied thanks to another ebay £36 bargain The fired scorpion is on the right hand side stamped 1999 with a small scorpion logo on the box, the new one on the left is stamped 1996 and has the big scorpion letters underneath (oldskool?!) Anyway the result is they both sound exactly the same lol. Nothing lost nothing gained. I wanted a little bit more noise but not happening unless i start pulling some baffles out:rolleyes:

I was always told the ones with the big lettering were the ones you wanted ? My sidey with huge SCORPION lettering on sounds awesome

Exactly what i thought @andybond The one on the right is the one with massive scorpion on the silencer, fitted yesterday and exactly the same volume. All i can assume is the ones that are loud as feck have lost all the baffles. The ones with the 4" tailpipe always sound superb, this sounds pleasant yet quiet for a single box system. Its as if the car doesn't want to be loud o_O

Strange.
The exhaust I have from RST has tonnes of wadding in it. I wonder if removing this ( is it even in the old ones ? ) increases the volume ?

Less wadding = more noise. Some of the old boxes have it some don't. A couple of trackdays usually removes most of it, the van has nothing left. The milltek on the megane isn't far off to lol the volume increased dramatically after the last trackday.

I will endeavour to keep all the wadding in place in the meg then ! It will be mental otherwise.

There you go then , open up one of your scorpion exhausts and see if any wadding / baffles are left ?

I would have opened it up ages ago if i had access to a welder, probs wait until the france trip is over now then choppy choppy :D

So the old girl made it to france and back for an awesome tour to la chatre for 30 years of the gtturbo, all good apart from totally fecked rear wheel bearing:D

Treated her to some new tyres as the old uniroyals were fecked. The original size is non existant now so went for 185/60/13 nankang ns-2r for the bargain price of £230 a set. They look awesome and perform just as good.
