The Campus Turbo 'in stock' build

Thanks, that might explain the fitting on the front of the sump next to the turbo oil drain as well then, as I’m not sure what that’s meant to be for either.

To update..

I got a big old eBay shopping basket of stuff and a some other packages in before the weekend, was outside on Friday night and all of Saturday in the garage

I got a clio expansion tank bracket, that meant I could position the bottle and finish the coolant circuit. Which I did, which clips and all so that is now done. but not pressure tested.

I welded the inlet pipe to the flange and silicone joiner out to the second pipe with filter. That’s fine apart from shrouding it/ protecting it a bit which is still to be done.

the boost run itself is now positioned much neater and fitting better after some adjustment, that is also clamped up and fully fitted.

the alternator is now fitted and the distributor timed as I had to do those things before I could fit the boost pipes and carb top finally.

I made an actuator bracket out of 4mm aluminium but I need to brace it off of something at the end to eliminate a bit of flex.

I also have bits coming to make up a rose jointed adjuster/ tensioner/hanger from the block to the turbo to strengthen it and hopefully extend the time before my manifold cracks.

I took the plunge and bought a renix 209 off of eBay last week, good condition, with bracket and cover. It hurt but I think it was a good price, so that’s going to go up into the scuttle along side the expansion bottle. I’ve looked at lead length a bit for that but I’ve not positioned it finally yet.

i have also ordered the line and fittings I need to make up an oil feed for the turbo, I had to mess about with the different fittings I had from the standard feed and the feed etc I got with the Saab turbo. I never really found out what the fitting from next to the sensor to the sump was so I’ve elected to blank it.

There’s a photo of the bias valves I’m going to try and use for the rear brakes.

All in all I’m happy with the weekends effort, next things to do are turbo oil lines, aux belt, aei placement, I’m pretty sure I need to turn my fPr round the other way, I thinkI’ve got my carb feed returning to my tank, the filter and pump also need putting in place for good. Then I think I could actually put fluids in it and fire the thing up, which is incredibly exiting. I need to read up and find out exactly what the fuel pump needs to work properly.

clutch needs reconnected, brake pedal connecting to servo, accelerator and speedo cables

but first fire up is I think very close, I kept looking at the engine bay on sat and feeling very pleased

cheers

ig old eBay shopping basket of stuff and a some other packages in before the weekend,
The big question is did you skimlink the purchases?

And secondly , the renix you bought is a 209C so most likely from a ph1 GTT. The 209D was the later of the two on ph2 cars

Other things actually I have ordered a catch tank for the ventalation system, and all the holes I’ve made that have silicone hoses passing through them now have a rubber bead to avoid chafing through.

and I need to look at what fans I’ve got, but really I need to put a slim fan in there, not a bulky original one. More money to spend.

I didn’t no, I can only apologise

SHITE! Please tell me that doesn’t mean ive wasted that money on something useless!
I thought 208 was ph1 and 209 was ph2?

209c will work ok and most will prob not notice the difference, but the best of the bunch is 209d, best ign map, but still quite poor on a tuned gtt🤣

Always next time!

208 was defiantly on the early ph1 cars . My D plate has the 208. The phase 1.5 I had ( E plate ) , had a 209c but that failed so I got a 209D from a phase 2.

I think there was some crossover as always of parts.

Dont worry it will be fine just the ignition curve is slightly different between versions from what I recall

Sorry mate. It’s always late and on my phone which is a pain, I’ll remember one day I’m sure

I’m annoyed about that, I’d aimed for a 209, because of the change of location for ph2 from what I gather, because of the aei cooking above the exhaust on ph1.
Sod’s law I get what I was trying to avoid haha

thanks for the info, glad it’s not a total loss

Cheers for the info mate 👍🏼
being as I’ve never driven a GTT I’m positive I wont notice the difference unless I do have to change it down the line. 😆

I noticed a fractional gain when I changed from a 209c to a d. Mostly from lightness of wallet.

Will be fine mate. Ive ran 200+ hp on a 208 before.

Couple of bits finished off and tidied up last night in the garage.

got the bits needed to make up an adjustable rose jointed brace/tensioner. I’m hoping that’s going to atleast peopling the time period before my manifold cracks.

painted up the turbo oil return hard pipe and got some silicone 90’s to suit from the big off cut box.

blue because I have no black, I’m not against it.

the banjo fitting for the turbo oil feed turned up yesterday morning. ive got that made up with new copper washers also.

originally I ordered a bit of braided line for this, but 8mm ID turned up when I’m sure I had ordered 6mm! So I used a bit of sturdy rubber pipe I had around. So this might well get swapped out for something else in the future.

I’ve piped up the breather system and just need to mount the catch tank to finish that off.

I’ve made that template but unsure if that is how it will get mounted so it’s no further than cardboard at the minute.

I also reconfigured and fully piped up the fPr and connected to the carb/inlet.

the fuel pump and filter and now also mounted with the exception of one piece of 10mm ID fuel hose that I need to get.

getting very close to the final push and the ‘today I’m going to start the engine’ update haha

cheers
