Right, an update. I abandoned the big brake upgrade. It would appear that the 310mm Clio V6 discs are too small and foul on the lower ball joint. So that is on the hold for the mo.
However, I managed to get my old man to start on clearing out the garage, and since got my spare engine in there. Its all stripped down now and parts are looking good. Was slightly worried as the thing had sat outside with no oil in it for 2 years (under a sheet of tarp).
Minimal wear on the mains and big ends. The cam lobes are in very good condition although the journals are slightly scored but does not show any movement or wear so not too worried about it.
Liners, pistons and rods are mint. Liner seats are spotless and there is zero pitting.
Water pump was ****ed, but no cavitation damage to speak of.
Oil pump looks fine but yet to strip it down, aux shaft and bearing surfaces are mint with zero wear or scoring.
Spent today cleaning and degreasing the block. Just put some special metals primer on onside ready for a spot of Hammerite silver tomorrow.
Head, crank, rods, pistons, clutch cover will be going over to the engineers at some point soon.
Possible crank regrind, and slight lighten, then all balanced. Head will get a skim and pressure test, port etc.
Cam will be off to piper for a regrind/reprofile.
I see some expense coming my way LOL
