Silver Quadra

Right, an update. I abandoned the big brake upgrade. It would appear that the 310mm Clio V6 discs are too small and foul on the lower ball joint. So that is on the hold for the mo.

However, I managed to get my old man to start on clearing out the garage, and since got my spare engine in there. Its all stripped down now and parts are looking good. Was slightly worried as the thing had sat outside with no oil in it for 2 years (under a sheet of tarp).
Minimal wear on the mains and big ends. The cam lobes are in very good condition although the journals are slightly scored but does not show any movement or wear so not too worried about it.
Liners, pistons and rods are mint. Liner seats are spotless and there is zero pitting.

Water pump was ****ed, but no cavitation damage to speak of.
Oil pump looks fine but yet to strip it down, aux shaft and bearing surfaces are mint with zero wear or scoring.

Spent today cleaning and degreasing the block. Just put some special metals primer on onside ready for a spot of Hammerite silver tomorrow.

Head, crank, rods, pistons, clutch cover will be going over to the engineers at some point soon.
Possible crank regrind, and slight lighten, then all balanced. Head will get a skim and pressure test, port etc.

Cam will be off to piper for a regrind/reprofile.

I see some expense coming my way LOL

degreased and primered the other side of my engine today, then started on stripping down the rods and pistons to inspect the little ends. They look very good - I put a mark or two in two of them - DOH! Dont think it will harm them though

Also stripped down the 4 under piston oilers and I think I have a J7R first; not a single spring broken!

Had a price from Piper for a 276 regrind, looking at 210ish so that will get popped in the post by the end of the week. They estimate a week turn around.

Then its off to the engine specialists to see what they can offer and how much lube I'm going to need.

Dan, I paid aout 115 with piper for the 276??

Dan see if you can mate, when are you sending yours off? maybe if they do both together they might give a bit of discount??

undecided at the mo, I can either send that off and get the crank and head work done next month or visa versa..

I could enquire about price

Ok, I got back onto them. It would appear they originally quoted for the V6 engine (DOH!) and he assures me that they SOHC regrind for the J7R will be ?120+vat..
They will be willing to do some further discount if we can arrange a 'group buy' but we will need a minimum of 5 cams.

I will be popping mine in the post before the end of the month.

Enquired for approximate pricing from the engine specialists.
Going to be between 500-650, which depends on whether I got with single sided crank lightening or the double sided (knife-edge).

So looks like I'm going with the following.
Head skim, 3 angle valve seats, l+b flywheel, crank work, and full balance.
I will discuss it in more depth with them when I'm over there.
