Silver Quadra

no they were aftermarket.. and I think he thinks the track rods are worn because I was using standard wheel bolts and they are so short they hardly took thread. bloody dangerous and I give myself a slap for it! Now it has standard Phase1 wheels on the front it feels solid. so I believe it will go back through no problems.

hmm

question, if I got back for my free retest, and it fails again do I get a further free retest?

No you have to pay for another test.

Check the wheels arnt catching on the rear caliper hanger, where the edge of the flange face of the wheel passes the lowest bit of the caliper. They have a bad habit of grinding, especially if you just switched them around position wise.

nah the rears have loads of room surprisingly. The fronts were fag paper close but again not touching. Anyway going to investigate some of these noises, swap the prop over for the good one, re-exercise all the caliper and probably bleed/flush out all of the brake fluid for nice new stuff. And pray they is fine hehe

WOOOOOOOOOOO 12Months MOT !!!

What a relief! Still some things to sort out. Standard fans are fooked and burnt out so she over heats. Might change the hand brake cables as I have a feeling they are 2wd ones and the hand brake is ****E! Engine needs a service and front end needs respraying.

I have heard that in High Wycombe the council has bought all the bubble wrap in the uk. They are currently wrapping all lamposts and curbs with it so Dan doesnt bend another 21 ...

well, just been out in the quadra....... interesting, forgot how much I love booooost. Boobs said shes peaking 16psi - regular amal setup. Never driven a Quadra before and it really is completely different to a 2wd, just gets on with the job at hand and puts the power down. This engine pulls much much better than my previous car.

few things that need sorting still...
1. prop is rubbing on the exhaust at times
2. hand brake actually doesnt work LOL also feels like something is slightly binding so brakes need working again
3. most of the lights on the instrument panel are shot or have dodgy connection
4. finish installing stereo
5. finish the wiring for the wideband gauge
6. refix wingmirror glass

I couldnt get her up to temperature to test the fans which was worrying, had her idling for 15/20mins and still wasnt past the 1st mark. Must be a super efficient engine LOL.

Sit it at 3000rpm by jamming a screwy in the throttle linkage, it'll soon warm up. Watch the gauge though.

Right a little update in here as people seem to see it better than the blogs.
Prop shaft is not rubbing anymore, as far as I can make out the adjustment to the exhaust hangers have moved it away sufficiently that it doesn't rub on over run.

The hand brake is now working as it should, the near side caliper is really good but the offside handbrake lever was very weak and traveled 5times the distance before locking the wheel. Took it off and removed the piston, under which there is a screw assembly and at the bottom a race bearing with a one way mechanism. This needed a bloody good clean and reassemble in the correct orientation to comply with the piston slot being vertical. I should have taken pictures to help other members but didn't have my phone on me.. Flapped (another of Dave's specials) the rear disc before refitting, bled the caliper which removed quite a lot of dirty dark crappy fluid. Waiting for it all to bed back in then will recheck the adjustment.

Stereo is in, bloody sub box doesnt quite fit due to the quadra boot being shallow compare to the 2wd

Wideband is in along with my gauge

Wingmirror is sorted for the moment

Need to purchase some little bulbs for the dash illumination as I can only see the odometer and nothing else LOL!

Got a manual boost controller through the post the other week, which needs installing, going to take her up a few PSI.

All starting to come together..

well just been out in the quadra with my old man doing some diagnostics and tweeking my newly installed bleed valve.

interesting results, we went out with the valve set on closed so actuator pressure if you like which was approx 8psi. pulled over and opened it half a turn - approx 18psi.

the afr gauge I've got installed was being a bit sketchy so popped home to grab the mapping laptop and run a log directly from the wideband, then headed for the bypass for a longer run.

onto the bypass in 4th popped it into 5th and planted it, hitting 20psi but afr is spot on. interesting result, going to leave it as is but be careful as I dont want a blown liner etc.

Goes well though :biggrin::biggrin:

Ok so changed my clutch the other day, most of you know I've been fighting to put the engine back on the box

some pics

How to secure the slave cylinder when removing the box. I've had some close calls with the cable tie slipping up off the fork but managed to grab it in time; the thrust bearing has never fallen off so I'm fairly confident there hasnt been a leak from it.

Edge it forward removing anything else that is still connected.

A thank you to Jo, mentioning that I might be able to change the gearbox mounts with it still in so to speak, and yes I have one side done. The otherside might be a little more tricky. Also gives me some more time to find some cheaper bolts for the sub frame.

Work continues tomorrow.

hmmm Dads can collection is breeding.. Lol eh Rabson..

I hope you're going to give the engine bay a good scrub whilst everythings out.....its hangin in there....ask boobs to do it for you! lol

Hmmm can I be arsed... Not really.

Built for go not for show? Meh I might put a sponge over the turrets and chassis rails. No point doing anything with the sub as it's got an oil leak
