Megane R26 Owners?

Stephen

New Member
Set on a R26 a car to keep me going for the next two years at least.

What bits and pieces should i keep an eye out that should of been done (Cambelt obviously) but more looking at the niggles to try and keep this car tip top for the next two years. And what have people changed/replaced on the car over the past year or two? Ive heard a few mounts are often changed?

Liquid Yellow/Blue/Black/white before anyone asks! (LY is a gorgeous colour)

White is the fastest. Fact.
Common failure parts : Swivel Bearings ( we have them in the shop ) , window regulators ( easy fix ) boot release button ( easy fix )
Usual suspect parts , inner / outer track rods , steering rack bush , droplinks
Clutch can be expensive to replace , I can get the TTV SMF + R26R clutch + Slave for £570 delivered to UK

Belts should be done , and water pump.

Quality branded tyres will tell you if its looked after.

Have a read of my thread in the meg section , have a read of Sheryl thread as well.

Also take a peek in the guides at the upgrade routes. That should help

Welcome along mate.

Echo what Andy said:

There are mint good example that have had all the required work done - its just a case of being patient till one pops up - they tend to go fairly quickly when they get listed also.

Major one is Clutch - they are at the age where they start failing, its 850 to remedy - so get one that has had a new clutch (mine went at 75k - flywheel, not the clutch, 2008)

Swivel Hub Bearings go every 40k, its £280 all in or thereabouts from an indy specialist to sort - again, you'll be able to find one that has had this work done within 20k or so....

Lower arms - these are a PITA to source from renault - I've seen a lot of people looking - people replace the bushes with powerflex ones, which works very well - keep your eyes peeled for a listing that has the lower arm bushes either replaced or with new inserts.

The rest are small(er), exhaust mounts, steering rack bushes, track rod ends etc

Thanks guys!

I May pop a few adverts/offers i receive on here for you guys to check out if thats ok?

The best one i have so far is the RS07ACE LY megane.
according to the guy selling it was owned by a MOD on MeganeSport.
270BHP, Forge front mount, Forge Recirc Valve R26r Wheels and a few other bits he is sending me tonight. £5200

Also got a LY 81k Ktec example 07
Ktec Cat back with map, 260hp, Standard new springs, Belts done 30k ago, with some details to come!
£5500

Gonna get the paperwork looked over tonight

Of course mate - fire any adverts across for us to give our opinion on them....

Personally I wouldn't touch a car with a remap unless its been done by RS Tuning....

I recognise the RS07 ACE plate for sure on the LY one....The things I would want to know is how much ££ the most recent owner has spent (the more the better), and how long he's owned it for - there's a chance if its been owned for a short period, with no real work done (the old "its been totally perfect for me") that they haven't budgeted for the costs involved and work hasn't been done that should of .

Also specifically ask if the clutch has been done.

Specifically ask about the hub bearings.

@Stephen - this is one that has just come up tonight - by a guy on FB -

Listed at 6k - good to look at his ad to gauge a bit more about what to expect.

"last 16 months I have spend a minimum of £2700 with receipts for proof on;
brand new dual mass fly wheel and clutch,
brand new hubs, wheel bearings, cv joints and boots
brand new black edition rear bearing and discs, ebc yellow stuff pads, rear calliper and carrier
Goodridge braided brake lines
Brand new front j hook discs with ferodo ds2500 pads"

If I'm being honest, its not the cleanest to look at - a professional detail will transform this car - have a look at my project linked on my signature ....

I don't know the chap, but with it being listed at 6k, he'll have realistic room to wiggle as well - would say its not bad value for money.....2007 Renault megane r26 | United Kingdom | Gumtree

The banana skin with this one would be as its a 2007, there's a chance the belts were done in 2012 - which would mean they would be due within 12 months of you owning - the banana skin is purely the price, around 400-£500 MAX from a proper specialist.

-Been off the road since November, Will be MOT'd before sale,

Negatives
-Clutch not done,
-Very little info on what mounts were done.

That is a great spec car at a great price. The helix clutch and SMF is a good move.

A curisotity is that is had the roof decal , but no front or rear ones. Are they aftermarket. It was either stickered , or not to my knowledge. ( decal / decal delete )

I cant see any interior pictures , but he mentions auto levelling xenon. That would imply its a lux car with leather and possibly keyless. Check that and ask for pictures.

What brand of tyres are on the front ? Did he replace with ditchfinders are replacing the car ?

It has partial leather in the front and cloth in the back, not lux i presume?

And he said they are premier black circle own brand tyres? all four are the same.

Thats not right I dont think. Should be leather all round on a lux. It might be worth asking if it has keyless entry ( another lux feature ) and possibly arm rest. that can be retrofitted easily to a non lux.

Own brand tyres. FML. They need changing stat.

one step ahead of you! asked about keyless entry and about the lux pack!

Well i'm more inclined to head towards the other car, rs07, just as it has everything but the clutch, which i think r26r would be a better upgrade! with 4 toyo r888s...

Worth checking for any damp in the footwells too as scuttle drains block up easy and spill into the air vents (loads of sound deadening takes ages to strip and dry out + wiring to get fried by water ingress ). Old window seals leak pretty bad and water comes into inner door card thru speakers etc / ruins the electric window modules.. dodgy top mounts on struts are annoying as old pinch bolts are a nightmare to get out without taking whole strut off, have found from bitter experience RS parts (espec cup) are really quite pricey to replace. Check driveshaft clips are in tact to.. probs all fine if cars well looked after tho
