Found the reason for the horn blarring just by looking at pictures... This stalk is from the breaker's yard and the copper connectors for the horn are crossed over where my thumb is.
Hi,
Went to Kent with my dad to relive some memories and see friends... The ac/Fan/heater of his Megane 3 dci is dead so we took my Laguna initiale. Were even able to refill with LPG in Dover. It was a nice short trip over.
New p&o ferries ferry "Pioneer" is not my cup of tea. Too clean and the entire crew from Asia? Very friendly but still does not seem right.
That really is bad news. Wages of 6 pounds per hour according to the Guardian. Will try Irish Ferries next time.
According to Reviews, they still have locals working there.

Hi,
I was offered a new engine for the gt. 0 km, turbo, flywheel, alternator, ac compressor included. 1750 Euros is above what I really want to spend. But I am considering it, especially with the knocking in the head when warming up. And I could just swap gearbox and engine at the same.
What should i do? What do you think about the price?
Daniel
Are you sure the noise on the video is a problem with the head? I mean, my speakers aren't the best, but sounds like typical metal clicking of an exhaust when expanding in a cold/heat cycle.
I just bought a GT engine with barely 100.000km. 1200€ shipping included from France to Spain. 6 month warranty after waterpump and belts have been changed. The only issue I found upon arrival was that the crank seal on the gearbox side was leaking a little.
Interesting thought the heat expansion theory. That might well be possible as the engine does run smoothly, although it has covered 220 tkm. I will check again!
So I just have to decide if I spend the money on a second engine. It is basically a Megane 225 engine, so probably the price is fair.
Boring News. New belts for the initiale. Replaced everything which took me 6h in the driveway. No squeal on startup anymore so i think the pulley damper was in it's way out. This is a 2000 Euro Job at Renault now If you chose to pay that much. Crazy! Daniel
Evening!
I did about 800km in the gt.
This is the car that had been sitting outside for 12 years due to a gearbox fault. Considering that, the 800km went well.
As I finally noticed noises especially in third gear and the typical cat piss smell of hot gearbox oil, i dropped the car off at a friends to get the faulty pk6 replaced by the Megane 180 pk4.
I was considering doing it myself and removing engine + gearbox on the Garage floor. But really, i know it would have taken me ages / and i did not fancy buying an engine hoist that then takes up space...
So,
This thing is still alive and now going stronger.
To remind you - this is a Laguna 2 gt with a Megane 225 engine.
Two problems have been solved:
The noisy pk6 gearbox was replaced with a Megane 180 pk4 017 with a slightly taller 6th gear. Crankshaft Seal, flywheel (Megane 180) and Clutch (Megane RS) were replaced at the same time. The car feels quicker with this gearbox and traction Control activates up to third gear in the wet. Don't know how a gearbox can make a difference... The rs Clutch probably was not my best idea as it is heavy.
Dirt particles clogging up the injectors. The car uses Petrol only for a minute before switching to lpg. As it stood 12 years, there seem to be deposits in the fuel line that end up blocking the injectors. Luckily they don't seem to do permanent damage. I bodged in a fuel Filter under the bonnet. The deposits are hard and turn into dust between your Fingers.
Anyway. Happy with the result... I am sure more niggles will turn Up. It's great fun driving the Laguna
Hi Dave,
that's what I first thought. But then these deposits turn into brownish dust / sand when you rub it between your fingers - unlike rubber.
But, yes, the tank was full of stale fuel with brown honey-like deposits. And when the previous owner changed the fuel pump, an internal hose just disintegrated. So better check all hoses again...
Hi,
another great news is that Cruise Control does work.
Just for context, if you put a different gearbox (pk4 019 / 017) with a different ratio into a Megane 180, cruise control will not work. Same seems to apply for Renault diesel ECU. So I was expecting the same for the Laguna 2, as the new gearbox has a 4,8% longer 6th gear.
Looks like the Sagem S3000 does set an error when engine rpm and the car's speed don't match the original specifications.
Lucky me. Maybe an info that you can keep in the back of your minds for similar projects.
Hi,
the car runs great. A lot quieter than the other laguna turbo I have. Might be the new flywheel...
But it will be time to solve some electronical issues. Has anybody had problems with a dead / zombie UCH?
No errors while you are driving. However, if you connect clip, nothing but a few minor ECU are found. Most ECU are just not listed. Instead there is a message of "vehicle configuration unknown - check the computers which have not been detected or recognized". And there is no way to get them detected.
It all happened when I was working with clip and the car AND computer just froze- even the stop / start button did not react.
My options are:
1. install the ECU Set that David bought for me on ebay.co.uk or
2. get a new / virginized UCH installed by the dealer and software written on it from Renault net
3. get a Renault net cd and try it myself???
I won't be able to access the UCH to copy data. I think I could virginize a second hand UCH with renolink. Disconnecting the battery does not solve the issue.
All in all- it's no drama. But what would you do? Option 1 is prob the way to go.
