Laguna 2 gt 204

Laguna gt

Member
Hi,
As I also own a R25 v6 turbo, I should have joined ages ago ...

So this is about the laguna gt, bought as a shared project with a friend who needed to be cheered up.

It's a 2005 2.0t gt Grandtour. There is also a vialle lpg system. Great. The catch is that it has been standing for 12 years outside as the gearbox is noisy.

I have spent the last weeks doing it up. The stale fuel killed two fuel pumps so first job was cleaning out the tank. Other Jobs were

- change belts, oil and filters
- fix leaky oil separator, and torn boost pipe
- Plugs and coils + new connectors for the coils
- free up brakes, disks actually seem ok

Next step will be fitting a megane 3 pk4 017, with a laguna 3 205 flywheel and a megane Sport clutch. The longer 6th gear will probably mean no cruise control.

Any comments and advice are welcome. I think the laguna is actually in a better condition than the espace v6 towing it 😀

assuming the cruise control is using abs pickups for speed calculation, i cant see it causing you an issue.

looking forward to the updates (y) i enjoy reading a salvage/revival thread

Hi,
I think the engine ecu compares the road speed with the engine speed and deactivates cruise control if it gets unexpected values. We will see. Might be that dtt4all might be a solution.

Anyway. The engine runs fine now. Clip shows no error Codes after changing the air temperature sensor and boost control valve.

The pk6 => pk4 gearbox conversion is a trodden path, using laguna 2 2.0 dci components. People tend to use the pk4 008 laguna 3 f4r 205 because the ratios are identical but I have a nearly new pk4 017 out of a Megane 180 F4r.

I chose a megane 180/ laguna 205 flywheel because it was only 260 euros but decided to go for the stronger Megane 250 clutch. Happy to report that they seem compatible on the work bench. But no screws are used? None included, will have to check that.

The only clutch and cambelt I have done were 20 years ago on the Renault 2.1 td. So it's all bit new. Financially this project does not have to make sense as it is meant to cheer up a mate after cancer.

P.s. luckily this car has the red/ black interior. I hate boring colours

I have covid, so might as well add more stuff. Cleaning the tank was no joy. The fuel turned into s.th. urine coloured and there were brown molassis-like deposits. This killed the original fuel pump, even desintegrating the insulation of the wires. The owner put a new pump in but that gave up when sucking up the molassis deposits...

Don't leave your cars standing for too long!

So,
What is this GT Version of the laguna?

This model was introduced with the phase 2, laguna 2 in 2005. You could choose between the F4r 205 and the new diesel 175.
- 17 inch wheels Drenalic with a GT only dark chrome finish. Slightly lowered from factory
- Black or black/red leather interior with red stiching + a metal gear knob
- this is KG0T with the F4R 784 engine. Renault used the Megane 225 engine but used the standard soft turbo 170 engine cat, exhaust and intercooler. => 204 Hp
- gearbox is the pk6 353 as in the 170 hp Version
- price was around 35.000 euros, 2000 euros less than a v6 initiale
- value today between 2000 and 5000 Euros. Most German cars ended up in Poland

I have one too, model year 2006. I bought it in 2009 and still have it - and still like it.

"- Slightly lowered from factory"
Front and rear spring rates increased by about 24%, strengthened damper mounting points, strengthened damper rods at the front and specially rated dampers. The ride height reduced by 10 mm.

"- Black or black/red leather interior with red stiching + a metal gear knob"
As far as I know model year 2005 came with black/red and 2006 + 2007 with all black leather. Also xenon headlamps, auto a/c, electric seats, cruise control/speed limiter, tyre pressure monitoring system and slightly better audio as standard, while in other equipment levels these were available as an option.

"- Renault used the Megane 225 engine but used the standard soft turbo 170 engine cat, exhaust and intercooler. => 204 Hp"
Cat is exactly the same as in 225. Exhaust, intake and ECU software is different (also the hydraulic power steering in Laguna presumably eats a bit more power than the electrical one in 225). Anyhow, my GT made 224.6 Hp /320 Nm on the dyno when it was 100% standard and driven around 60 000 km at that point.

"- gearbox is the pk6 353 as in the 170 hp Version"
Not in all of them. At first it was 003, then 053 and then revised to 353. But no major changes between those. I think all 2005 models were either 003 or 053.

Thanks,
That is more than I knew about these. I would love to put this one back onto its original springs. Do you still have those installed and know the colour code on them?
Looking forward to the first drive in spring. And especially how it compares to my 2.0t initiale you can see on one picture.

The best thing about these cars is that they are very well protected against rust. Hardly found any at all on this one.

Unfortunately don't remember anymore, I have sold the original springs a long time ago. Mine has a suspension kit and is further lowered from the original.

That's true. Mine has partially peeled off its lacquer and paint surface from the front end, but fortunately those parts are plastic, so they still won't rust.

Well,

I think it's the perfect time to buy one now. The scrapyards are full, parts are cheap and niggles and solutions now known. Or get a laguna 3 with this engine. A bit bloated interior but the better car. There is a cheap one on eBay.co.uk at the moment...

After doing the cambelt at 2 degrees on my third day of covid due to boredom, I have decided not to tackle the gearbox on the garage floor. It's the last big job before a MOT and I have asked a friend with a Workshop for help.

So,
the car is back together and yesterday I started it up for the first time after changing the belts and water pump. Everything seems fine. All F4R turbo seem to have a keyed crankshaft sprocket. And I didn't have to adjust the camshaft sprockets because everything lined up perfectly after a few rotations...
So, only the gearbox left to do. I was considering buying a pk4 018 limited slip box but that would add another 1200 euros and probably not make a big real life difference, would it?

My pk4 017 seems to be out of a press car as it has a very low built number. For pk6 to pk4 you will need:

- Gearbox support 2.0 dci : 82 00 292 828 and 82 00 292 830

- left driveshaft 2.0 dci : 82 00 363 698

- bracket shift cables: 82 00 404 708

Of course depends on the driving style and the intended use, but I would say that in pure street driving you can easily live without it, assuming that the power stays somewhere below 300 hp. These are not so much for driving on the track or twisty roads anyway, but rather for driving a nice longer distance on bigger roads. Of course it would be nice to have, especially in winter/slippery, but at least I haven't missed it that much, although in the past I have planned to install the PK4-018. But maybe someday if I manage to break my PK6 box (I haven't succeeded yet, even though I've been trying hard :D). Those PK4s have not been incredibly reliable either, so who can say in advance if it's worth the money.

Lsd makes a massive difference if you like going fast on the corners.

Im interested in the metal gearcable bracket as megane pk uses a plastic bracket which is terrible.
