21 Turbo Quadra engine change

I had originally built this engine for my lovely black phase one over 4 years ago but never got the time to get the car back on the road and now it's needing a fairly major resto, so rather than it sitting in my garage doing nothing I decided to fit it into the Quadra!

Full engine rebuild... all gaskets, bearings etc. replaced, stronger ductile iron piston liners, 270 degree cam, ported and a balanced crank.

Yes I have got a 6ft pit but believe me its a pita because when you get to see the underneath of your so often you start worrying about every bit of corrosion and rather than polishing the paint on a Sunday afternoon I'm in the pit topping up the underseal :(

Fitted the engine in Feb but have only done a few hundred miles so not even run in yet, hoping to get a megasquirt ecu fitted than try for a nice reliable 250+bhp.

Thanks Adey, think they are only 175bhp and 199lb/ft. Should be ok getting to 250 I hope. The cam should help to move the peak torque a bit higher.

nice work, is the stock ecu not re mappable or are you looking for more control by going to megasquirt?

Yup 175bhp and 199lb/ft. The OE engine/cam is capable of around 250bhp with a remap.

Ferswin if you fancy a no-hassle management solution PM me matey, i'll have a chat with Scoff @ EFI Parts as he's done us some fantastic deals on a supply/fit/map in the past, I have an Adaptronic 420d, so does @dips21t and @la21t had a 440 fitted and mapped that he bought elsewhere for stupid money. If you weigh up the time you'll spend poring over wiring, configuring, mapping etc it's a no brainer IMO. I believe the last install for Dips was on the PH3 OE flywheel trigger too so no need for a 36-1 trigger any more either. You'll be limited to about 260bhp with that cam though, we have discovered, because it'll valve float at any more.... you need uprated valve springs to get past that (or thereabouts)

That's a lovely looking power unit you have there!! Keep up the great work!! The temptation is growing stronger to own a quadra now!

thanks for the comments,

Dave, thanks for the advice and I may just take you up on your offer but I was thinking of installing the kit that fenix website guys have made which is basically is a plug and play megasquirt unit no hassles with wiring, mapping(to get going) or trigger wheels

Lee, I think I may of... can't remember now but I haven't had my ph1 on the road since end of 2009.

Without banging on, if you want to come check out the 420d on my car then feel free...The user interface make it worth considering alone, as well as the Android app, and the fact you can easily calibrate it to use any sensor you like too. My new TPS cost me £15 and an adapter bracket instead of an OE one which Renault wanted £120 for (!). High(er) initial outlay but going forward it's hugely beneficial.

Looking at selling this now...

Been off the road since September 2015 needing rear discs. Have them now but work commitments, house purchase and other cars means this doesn't get a look in.

Has a recaro Ford drivers seat. Custom remap on 357 injectors. Don't have print out but they are maxed out on 20psi with a T4 turbo.

Completely re done clutch hydraulics with willwood master braided hoses and new slave off Delorean.

Hasn't had rust issues in past but has cosmetic rust and could now do with bodywork and paint.

Water ingress from sunroof and windscreen.
