5 GT Turbo Project reshell

Quick recap on this revived thread!
So a month ago I got my hands on a tidy GTT to reshell my forgotten(rotten) tungy! It was delivered on the 13th September.
It was advertised as a non running abandoned project. Welding to the sills had been done, and the underside all sealed. New wishbones, bushes, suspension, brakes and lines all had been fitted. The previous owner unfortunatley had no more time for it.
His loss was my gain. The engine was standard as far as he knew but was never running. After giving it the once over, a quick reroute of some vac pipes, new tdc sensor and fitting my tungy's carb it fired up. so here she is!

Over a few weekends I have stripped the 5's down and got both engines into the garage.

The standard engine from the white 5 is sold already to a local lad. And the cammed engine from the tungy is getting freshened up before being dropped in to its new home.

With the block looking rather tatty I set about getting it ready for some fresh paint. I stripped it down, removed all the paint, degreased and washed it.

After a few coats of primer it was given a nice coat of blue hammerite engine paint.

Next up was to adjust the cam timing. On my previous setup I had the 285 cam timed to 109deg, but after listening to some advice from others I timed it up to 113deg this time - Hopefully this will get me a few more ponies out of it.

It was then time to get it bolted back together. New waterpump, new engine mounts, campus bottom pulley and a few bling brackets fitted too. Due to my heavy handedness I stripped the threads of 3 exhaust manifold studs but after a bit of helicoil action It was all good and ready to go in.

I began to mock up some of the pipework so I could check fitment and make some new radiator mounts in the subframe. I've removed the lower half of the crossmember to allow fitment of a bigger front mount but still retain the std bumper, I also chopped out a small piece beside the headlight surround to allow for better flow to the air filter.

A few more deliveries still to come so time depandant im hoping to get a bit more done during the week.

Only a few jobs have been completed over the last few weeks, I was not too keen on the gutterstrips. They had been painted to match the body and although looked alright, the more i looked at them the more they annoyed me. So on went the std pair from the tungy

I got hold of some early gaz coilovers. They worked as they should and didnt leak but needed freshened up a bit. I strippped all the surface rust off and old paint before treating them to a fresh coat.
