11 Turbo My new 11 Turbo

I'm quite happy with the car overall, considering it's age, but it has trouble idling correctly which makes it a pig to drive around town! Hopefully my brother can sort it out (he doesn't know it yet) and I'll be happy to run it around as it is for a little while before getting the bodywork sorted out properly!

Got a couple of questions for you guys...

1. Does this trip computer only work when the original stereo is in place? It doesn't seem to do anything at the moment.

2. The cubby hole below the vent won't stay shut and I can't even see how it is meant to. What am I missing here?

3. What is this audio controller that was in the boot? Part of the aftermarket Pioneer CD changer that the car came with or something made for Renaults?

4. Are the electric windows and windscreen wipers this slow on all older Renaults or is it just my car? I have not had an old car in a long time so it could just be the way they are!

Oh and one other thing. Why don't these parcel shelf strings retract properly? And if I was to find a three door base model R11, would the parcel shelf and supports fit the Turbo?

Top gubbins is from a R25, possibly 11 Electronic, and certainly Alp GTA, part of the stereo, there's another double din unit that goes with it, that's the tuner, other is amp/tape deck, large and pointless......
If my memory serves me right , clock should be there, plus another cubby hole?
Stereo control is from a 19 16V etc era, ditch the lot, other than a decent head unit, there's a tape holder/surround that fits in centre console, two types, one with space for four tapes, one a open storage space.
Parcel shelf is normal , possibly someone like @Big Steve - Raider will have a fix.
Windows as above, he'll know, wipers , strip them clean everything up, lube, poss lazy motor.
Great cars, miss mine everyday, but the past is the past. Sniffle....sniffle.....

Hi Turbell, thanks for the reply. If that's the case with that computer and it is not original I would definitely rather have a clock and cubby hole! It's a PITA not knowing the time when driving it! I'd like the original cubby hole back under the stereo as well really, don't know what the silver plate is all about and didn't think it was standard!

Now I remember, tape cubby has a surround for the top part, I swapped it for the cubby that sits in the lower part, but if I'm right that one just sits in the lower, with no surround......somewhere I've got OE tape cubby/ upper combined surround, bet I swapped it to the single lower one as the tape cubby surround fowled a modern head unit.
Clock in mine was a analogue face, whereas my mates 5GT was digital, loooooong time ago now.
Mine was about four years old when I had it, so I presume it was all OE, think the head unit was a Pioneer, few extra nobs on it, compared with what was usual back then, think I swapped it for a Pioneer CD tuner, which would have been a removable face, think that's why I swapped to lower cubby/no surround???

As much as I'd like an original stereo, who has any tapes these days? I think I've got one up in the loft, but that would get old, fast! Lol.

If I could find an original stereo surround with cubby that would be cool, probably put a single DIN Alpine unit in, that was my go to stereo back in the day!

On another note, what is going on with the gear knob? Were they covered in leather originally? It's just a weird, discoloured plastic thing lol...

Trip computer is out of a renault 11 electronic iirc, it wont be wired up. Stock clock from any renault of that era will fit once removed.

Gearknob is not the correct one from memory.

Wipers will be a lot slower than a modern.

I would imagine it's had one of these fitted from a 11 electronic . Which means the plastic dividing bar between the stereo and original cassette holder would of been removed?!
I might have the upper section with clock hole & cubby hole.. will look

Thanks for the replies Jack. That makes sense. I'd put one of those in the car for retro appeal! Now, just to find one! Finding a gear knob with the leather in place will probably be harder!

I might be able to help with the stereo! I'll have a look tomorrow..quite a different plug arrangement to ordinary 11s ,as there was a specific column control etc..to put it mildly I was rather obsessed with the 11 electronic when younger...!
I imagine the gearknob could be retrimmed quite easily..?

I have a spare stereo if you're after one. Might eaven have a spare steering Column control from a electronic somewhere, ..if you want to make things really fiddly 🙂.
I have rear parcel shelf repair kits,if any of the lugs are missing on yours..?

I am in Gosport, Hampshire.

Jack, I am away with work at the moment but that's something I'd be interested in when I get home. I will contact you in a few weeks. Many thanks. Matt
